"On The Rocks" SLH
Just completed a 2-day stay at "On The Rocks" SLH in Imerovigli, Santorini. I originally booked part of the stay at the "Santorini Secrete Suites & Spa". But due to some complication, we stayed at "On The Rock" longer than originally planned. I think this is even a better choice than at "Secrete Suites". I'll explain further.
Check In
Booked taxi through the hotel. Taxi took directly to the hotel and hotel bell staff was waiting at town square. Front staff was very friendly and explained all important things. Since we arrived in the early morning, we checked in luggages and headed to Oia.
Came back to hotel about 3PM. Rooms were ready.
Room
We booked two "double" rooms, both on the small side. But the rooms are adequate, just as expected. Both rooms have two lounge chairs and small table and two extra chairs. The most important, both rooms have excellent views of the caldera.
Everything works fine, the AC, shower and bathroom. No such "horror" stories we heard often from other hotel reviews.
Service
All staff, including front desk, pool deck and cleaning staff were very responsive. In particular, Milen at front desk worked hard to help us book a boat trip and he was really very helpful.
Dining
The breakfast was included. It was a bit slow, but it was prepared on-site at hotel and it took extra efforts. The quality of the breakfast was excellent. Very good quality.
Location
Location, location and location. IMO, "On The Rocks" is about the perfect location for us. Both Oia and Fira are too crowded and we did not like that. "On The Rocks" offers exactly what we expected. Imerovigli is much quieter than other locations. There are still enough places to get food. We prefer to stay away from the crowds.
Imerovigli is the highest town center on Santorini Island. The view is just superb. We can see all cruise ships over the caldera. Skaros Rock is just close by.
There is local bus to both Oia and Fira. It costs 1.8 euro to anywhere. This is much cheaper than taxi. But you'll need to remember bus schedules and the buses do not run all the time.
Overall
Overall, we found "On The Rocks" exactly what we expected. We did not stay at "Secrete Suites", but we had no regret. There is no need to pay close to double the "price" or points just to stay in Oia. Oia is good for the walk and to watch the sunset. But we did not care to stay there. Fira is also too crowded.
We definitely recommend "On The Rocks". We like the location and the hotel. We'd like to come back.
