How ? , extra wing tanks on a 737

Makes zero sense unless service is out of YYT or they go buy/lease proper long distance aircraft

The Edmonton Airport Authority has offered WestJet money to fly YEG-Reykjavik-LHR

Like the 757's the use for Hawaii.
Or will it be a codeshare with EI?

I think most agree WS flying to Europe is inevitable. Unless one has a date to go with the "word on the street," the post if meaningless.

They probably got the info from the OP on flyertalk

Westjet can sell a ticket for onward travel to Europe on Icelandair so expansion of that to a codeshare wouldn't be improbable.

Actually, WS is considering a new widebody. I think WS will order the 767-300ER or 787-8 Dreamliners as well. Not the 737MAX. Because the 737-7MAX/8MAX is out of range. They don't have enough range to reaching in Europe. However, the 767-300ER or 787-8 Dreamliner will fly to European or Latin American as well.

Let the speculation begin.

Do you think that WestJet will turn YYT into a hub for European flights?

People at the YEG airport must be so happy that there will be another Europe option, with only 2 connections in Canada, and not on AC.

Wonder if AC will pull their LHR flights. The fares in summer are less than half AC!

$45 YQ at most might make this a good use of Air Miles.
(haven't priced this out on the GDS, but this is stayed in the press release.)
EDIT: YQ is only $15 RT.
(yet somehow YVR-YYZ YQ is $23-it must really have something to do with fuel! )

Interesting YYT TATL development.

WJ to start TATL service to DUB from YYT: http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/deal...eland-20131115

Introductory flights around $400 return from YYT. Compares with AC YYT-LHR around $1400 return! Going to be interesting to see how that plays out. I don't have any need to go to DUB but would route via there to London to save a grand.

Wonder what AC will do in response.
