Is there (or should there be) a fourth pdf for Short haul international? (POM, HIR, VLI,...)
EDIT: Yes there is: https://static.cdn.responsys.net/i5/...-%20Retail.pdf (found by changing Long to Short in the URL)

From what I've read Plats and Golds won't be able to choose a specific seat but will be assigned to the first few rows - Plats in (roughly) 3 - 6 and Golds from 7 onwards. Preference (aisle or window) is already in the profile. I'm guessing that will depend on status when booking (as that's when seat selection currently takes place rather than status when checking in but who knows

Choosing row 3 in advance is to ME one of the few bennies of being Plat.
Take that away and they lose me most likely. What a dumb brain fart, and it costs them zero.
So FREEDOM is the new FLEXI it seems?
Looks to me like paying more for FREEDOM has precious few bennies either now.

Selecting row 3 at booking is a big draw as a plat when not flying for work in J. Sad this benefit is lost.
Seems like they could assign me a middle seat, and I'd have to pay to change it ?!
Are Y award tickets considered "freedom" in terms of seat requests?

I'm guessing that the seat allocation program basically runs along the lines of "If Platinum member find first row starting at 3 where seat availability = member's preference else if Gold member find first row starting at 7 where seat availability = member's preference else" and so on. then there'll be a rule-breaker that says something like "if not found by Row 12 try for window (if preference was aisle) or vv." and finally you'll end up with a middle seat. It's much less likely to go row-by-row and stick you in the middle of Row 3 if there's an aisle or window available in (say) Row 5

I was automatically assigned seats by VA for some time when I used my DL status. They always put me in a window which was my preference, and as a Diamond (partner platinum) I almost always got row 3. I'd say they do a pretty good job with it.

Worth noting that Virgin has put the fee for selecting seats on hold until they can rejig their systems to exempt platinums and golds from the fee
