The least visited States in the Country?

I assume most of us have been to Illinois, New York and California but, yesterday my seatmate and I were talking about the states we had never visited. This got me wondering which are states least visited by frequent flyers.

The states I don't remember having visited are Maine and Arkansas. What about you?

The list of all nations/states of our world that I haven't been visiting yet, is too big to be listed here on this international forum - sorry Punki. There are 190 sovereign nations/states (UN 1998).

And if you mean with states something smaller than a nation - I have been at least visiting all 25 states/cantons of Switzerland.

Awhile back I remember watching some TV documentary related to travel. One of the topics covered was exactly what you are asking - what is the least visited state in the US? The answer was North Dakota.

I was presumptuous in saying "the Country" without specifying the U.S.A. (We Americans are so provincial--of course, it's a pretty big province.)

"ornery"? (it's not in my big, big diccionary) - but I am often quite good in assuming/guessing the meanings of words ...

but anyway: I miss merry for my defense (you should have followed his online strydent outcries when someone called us Europeans "overseas" on this board) - or the discussions we had, when I posted once in german (in real german, not my nativ swiss-german).

"Ornery" while a real English word, is chiefly dialectical. Where I grew up it meant devilish. Like little boys who did things intentionally to disrupt the flow. You had to act like they made you mad, but secretly their antics made you laugh. They were ornery. Merry was ornery.

Being an American is a funny thing. On one hand we are so proud and grateful for the accident of our birth. On the other we miss the wide diversity, history and culture. Be patient with us.

Yes, but that is only because of a technicality about the yellow line. The day we sat on the yellow line was March 17 and we had painted the line green, in honor of St. Patrick, earlier in the day. So I felt that I had to answer "no" to that question.

Whew, if it had been any other day I would be even crazier than you. Too much for me to live up to.

Just Alaska- and again I'm not going for salmon this month! I'll be "stuck" in the Sierras! Next year for sure! Finally, I hope.

I'm down to four "US" states that I haven't visited: Arkansas, Alabama, South Dakota, Mississippi. Just hit OK three weeks ago.

BTW, this thread begs a question I've had for a while, that I was intending to pose at the PIP. How many countries have we visited? However before this is formally introduced as a topic, how does one define a "country"?

For example, do you count a US territory such as Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands as a separate "country"?

Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, and, of course, North Dakota. (But I did see "Fargo" a couple of years ago.)

I have visited all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces...all before I was 25 years old.

I married a man 20 years ago that had been to all 50 states so I had to play catch-up. My last state was Alaska. I cleaned up two southern states I had missed by visiting my brother in MS and going over the border to Mobile (a pretty but smelly town). Did a run in 1993 to grab the last of the midwest, in the northern part mostly and loved WI - Taliesen, the Dells and Madison. My husband is very goal oriented and I am competitive so we joined Travelers Century Club in LA where full fledged members have been to 100 countries (by their definition which sometimes cheats). You can also be aspiring. They have newsletters where members share experiences getting in and around challenging places. My husband and I are at parity for the moment and both hit 100 this spring on a cruise to the Persian Gulf. He says he will relax now but I do not trust him not to reset his goal to 200 countries! We have also been to all 4 oceans and both above the Arctic Circle and below the Antarctic Circle. We subscribe to the Erma Bombeck Theory of Travel which is to do the tough stuff while you are young and save the easy stuff for your old age. In our book, that includes getting into potentially dangerous countries at their peak of safety - like Cambodia when the UN was there and Peru while the Japanese guy is Prez. We completely blew it on Yugoslavia, pegging it as an easy spot so missed it.

I guess I'm a piker.....been to all 50 states,7 Canadian Provinces, and only 31 countries.

This year I'll be adding 4 more countries to my miniature flag collection.
