Good - they have come to their senses that all the effort of stepped bonuses, Points.com interventions etc. dont work.

I sincerely hope so! Apparently the miles should post immediately from the terms & conditions at the bottom of the page : ^^^

Bonus miles will be awarded upon completion of the transaction.

Should I buy miles?
I want to use them for a January 2013 holiday - but not make a booking till later this year.
I am worried that the DM program will merge with AAdvantage in case the two airlines merge... and from what I can gather, the new airline will be part of OneWorld... (I want to use my miles to fly LH on the A380.)

All this is not going to happen before the end of 2012...so if I were you I'd go ahead and buy.

Kinda sorry I bought 90,000 miles last month for $1881 when that amount would get me 100,000 miles now.

This can certainly be done. While highly unlikely in First, Y or C should be available with a bit of search effort.

Is this a good deal? I don't understand how 2000 points for $35 (+7.5% tax) is a good deal. Couldn't I get more bang for my buck if / when the Grand Slam comes around? Not trying to sound condescending, just actually wondering.

yes, absolutely, if there is another and you play the game correctly.

my "waste" the past two years with GS has only been $300 or so. The rest I spent actually gave me goods or services in exchange for my hits.

as all the bloggers will comment on today (since they all will comment on this), this isn't bad IF you use it transatlantic or pacific in F during low season. but, again, how many of us would actually spend $4k on an F ticket in the first place?

100,000 for $1900 (plus some fees, so let's call it ~$2000 USD) gets you a C ticket with a stopover to Europe.

(Alternately, 90,000 miles gets you a C ticket to Hong Kong with a stopover in Europe. )

I don't think you'll find many business class tickets to Europe or Asia for $2000. A routing where you went something like ORD-PEK(stop)-FRA-LHR(stop)-ORD might be a significant portion of $2000 in coach.

Grand Slam is a fine event to use for mileage accumulation (that's my plan), but it only comes once a year. Sometimes you just want what is in effect a discounted ticket.

Not to quibble, but it's $1881.25 per 100K, which at least for now (likely to change) is good for a C-class ticket.

The advantage of getting the miles for 1881 is that you can use them on NON-US AIR flights for that Europe or Asia flight. If you want to use them on US go ahead and buy your ticket on US and collect the miles and elite miles etc. I have never redeemed on US Air but have over 600k miles to use for other Star Alliance flights.

So here's the Question: I am having 2015 Miles (whooohow), would it be a good Idea to buy some? This would be my very first Buy at US Airways, just followed the Posts all the Time, but never acted...So....should i buy? To go to Asia? Or..Maybe Hawaii? Is that possible?
