When I read someone claim WN is a cattle call, I consider them rather uninformed, at least compared to US.

PHL B and C terminals are horrible for lining up to board since the actual door to the jetway is down a long L shaped ramp. Instead you have a cluster of people crowding the podium, nearly half are holding zone 3 and above. I don't understand why PHL was built that way, what are they accommodating on the ground level that needs such a high ceiling?

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's East only. I've had FC/1/2, FC/1, FC/all preferred, and all preferred/1/2 called on multiple occasions at SEA, LAX, SAN, SFO, PHX, DEN and LAS. It is more prevalent out East yes, but West has it's fair share.
The absolute worst is the "all silver/gold/plat/chairman's members as well as zone 1 (and sometimes 2) may now board..." But I've only seen this happen on express flights and occasionally in PHL, LGA and CLT.

My recent experience on East flights is also the same rushed cattle call. Very little time for FC to even get in line before Zones are called.
I flew PHL to LGW late in '06 and Envoy was called, but very shortly after coach was called to begin boarding. It made for an interesting boarding procedure . . .
As we all know, it comes down to 1) US creating coherent policies across the board; and 2) correct application / enforcement of those policies. Boarding procedures should be the same across the system. I am probably asking too much.

My last three flights were Envoy/1/2 all at once. There's no attempt whatsoever at PHL to differentiate the Envoy product. It wouldn't cost them a penny to start boarding 5 minutes earlier so they could call Envoy exclusively.
I can't recall when--if ever!--zones 1 and 2 weren't called together and only once (at JFK by West folks) when FC was given the opportunity to board by itself.
UA does a nice job of boarding, fyi.

UA in SFO (I have seen some for CO as well) has a separate line for First and top elites that is at least a step above the massive thrust towards the gate. Pushing past people who are standing in the way and not supposed to yet be in line for boarding is one of the only times I allow myself to be a bit rude.
This allows me to present two of my new rules on Draconian Airlines, where annoying passengers get put in the back row next to the head.
Rule 1: Anyone within 30 feet of the gate or blocking the gate's means of egress when their zone has not been called gets relegated to the back of the plane middle seats first.
Rule 2: Anyone who doesn't put their carryon, jacket, purse, present, bag etc. away within five seconds of reaching their row gets similar treatment with an additional penalty...your aforementioned bag gets checked through to your final destination. To add: not only must your bag be put away, your rear end must be out of the aisle...

Isn't it either Reagan or Philly where the shuttle flights leave at the end of the terminal at gates all next to each other? It's the biggest cluster **** when you have four or five planes' worth of passengers crammed in to one gating area trying to board flights that all leave within 15 minutes of each other. I always wished they'd space those flights/gates out so that there weren't so many people forced to stand and ergo rush the door.

That would be the reason 3/4 of the plane boards before the F cabin even can get NEAR the front of the line! Maybe they should give out zone 1/2 to anyone who doesnt poke their ears out with a rusty knife and listens to the stupid credit card announcement.
Seriously..what is next.."see your in-flight shopping specialist to get a good rate on flooring..installed in a day"?????
