Really can't standby on award ticket?
US Airways phone agent just told me it's impossible to standby (or MoveUp) on an award ticket (in this case issued by BA). Is this for real? I can't find anything about it online.
She said I could try at the airport but she wouldn't put me on the list. Is it worth going to the airport early?
Trying to beat some thunderstorms today.

I'm not sure of the rules, but yes, there are a lot of cases where you can't stand by. They will let flights go out with empty seats and tell you to wait your turn.
However, you can never tell what will happen at the airport. They can do just about anything they want there, whether they will or not is another matter.
I'm doing the same thing today, I have a flight that gets where I'm going at 11PM, but I'm going to try to get to the airport early and beg my way onto something earlier.
I have a friend who swears that crying helps, but I prefer to just whip out my card showing my Kryptonite status and warning that I will call Doug Parker's golfing partner's second cousin's wife's boss if I don't get the flight I want, even if it's full.

US Airways-operated flights = US Airways rules.

Were you discussing standby, or MoveUp?

Anyway, the lounge agent was able to get me onto the earlier flight. Yay!

I know you had your issue resolved, but just as another data point - I've used MoveUp a couple times on BA award tickets on US, and had no problems. I did make sure to go in and change the FF# to my US/AA number first, though, so my status was recognized.

Wearing the other hat, BA won't let those with AA awards stand by.
