Half way to 1K; not giving up

Call me crazy, but I'm not ready to give up my 1K perks without a fight.

With just over 50K EQM in the 2007 bank, I've decided to sprint for the finish. This will include a 27-hr "vacation" in Rome, SEA-IAD-FCO-IAD-DEN-SEA (13760 EQM), a relaxing 2-and-a-half day holiday in Madrid, SEA-LAX-MUC-MAD-FRA-SFO-SEA (21776 EQM), up to 5K EQM from Choices, and 9000 EQM from domestic flights to be named later.

The trip to FCO will be upgraded with SWU's; The trip to MAD will be in C, thanks to UA/LH Biz sale to Europe; this will provide 50% bonus EQM for the domestic and TATL segments.

A tip for the future: a B fare will get you the 50% EQM bonus, and would be upgradeable r/t for 30K miles which is almost what you'd earn for the trip...

ETA: you may not be able to upgrade the MUC-MAD-FRA legs this way...

May I ask the reason to maintain 1K for 2008?

BTW, take a trip to Toledo while you are in Madrid. I was there last month, and loved the city. It is a short day trip from MAD.

With the UA/LH Biz Fare sale to Europe, the Z fare is $1000 less than the B fare.

I'm impressed!^ Sounds like a good time, especially if you get to stay in the cities for a short while.

Golly. Transatlantic B fares ex-London rarely run to $1,000!

Really? I wish. I have never paid under $1,000 for a B fare to LHR, and I buy a lot of them.

Go for it Fred! There are worse places to spend a day or 2 than FCO and MAD (although more time would be preferred ). Have fun!

From SEA to LHR in December, the lowest B fare is $2915; a Z fare is available for $2475. Note that these discount Z-fares require 30-day advance purchase, so time is rapidly running out for December.

Agree that Toledo is worth a day trip from Madrid - it's a wonderful little town and the paella there is nice too.

Also, Madrid's Barrajas airport is a wonderful shopping "mall" - too bad the dollar is so weak against the euro.
