Consolidated "Does flying on Air Canada get me UA EQMs?" Thread [Merged]

Just booked a trip SFO-Toronto.
Accidentally booked one leg on Air Canada.
Will I get EQM's for that leg?

It says United flight 8515 (operated by Air Canada)

Depends on the fare bucket.
See: http://www.united.com/page/article/0,,1180,00.html for details.

If you attach your MP number to the reservation, yes.

Yes. You will earn 100% EQM and RDM on MP for the flight. All transborder (US<->Canada) flights give you full EQM and RDM. The partial earnings are only for intra-Canada flights.

Cheers

Just remember that these are AC fare buckets... Because you're flying a UA codeshare on AC metal, the booking class you see (which is UA's) is not necessarily the same one that applies (which is AC's). You'd have to call to ask for the applicable AC booking class. Data point: I recently flew NYC-YYZ on a UA W fare (AC codeshare YYZ-SEA), and it ended up booking into A class on AC.

While it is great to get the EQM's, you won't get the DEQM's from the promotion. I have avoided as many Air Canada flights just for the DEQM promo -- I took a YUL-IAD-SFO rather than a YUL_SFO for the additional 3,000 EQM's

:-) . I always do YUL-IAD-SFO as well, but next week I will be doing YUL-BOS-SFO that will give me almost the same EQMs but almost double the RDMs (BOS-SFO triple RDM promo).

The DEQM promotion is going to end in two weeks, it is safe to bet most of the people book the tickets now are beyond the end date, otherwise the person would be booking in all UA metal.

while partial earning only exists within canada, fares that earn zero have certainly made their way across the border.. i flew a tango fare BOS-YUL last week, and earned zero for it.. (when the difference between tango and tango plus is $620, i'll forgo the 500 miles..)

but, if you book it under a UA number, as the OP has done, it should be fine -- tango (non-earning) fares would be booked via AC on an AC flight number.. YYZ-SFO is a long flight without E+, tho...

Elite bonus is only for UA/UAX metal, US or LH TATL flights.
You won't earn elite bonus on AC flights even if it's UA code-share.

This is the best news I have heard from UA this year . The only downside being K/N/G/P/E/T fares between the US and Canada will only earn 50% EQM while they earn 100% EQM today.

Well, that just made it a heck of a lot more likely I'll be flying AC next year.
