Fee for seat change at gate?

I made a seat change at the gate yesterday and when he made the change he insinuated that he was making the change for free this one time. Anyone heard anything about UA charging for a seat change at the gate?

As an 1K elite? A seat change? I hope not! I really really doubt that they would charge for something small like that.

On CO, you can change it yourself online and then just request a new BP at the gate (or use a mobile BP).

Perhaps you misunderstood the agent.

My guess is the agent was using some dry sarcasm.

Maybe the agent made a joke, but had bad timing?

May be it is a new change that I don't like but I really doubt it! One time at ORD, I kept changing my mind and changed my seat at least two times with the chicken air side.

You know, I was about to say something like that. When I saw this thread, I had a horrible vision of the future:

GA: "Well, sir, your upgrade cleared, but there's a "seat change" fee you have to settle first...

Say, I think this merger might be making me cynical.

Maybe they're just storing up a one-time charge for when you will soon hit 1MM

Perhaps he/she did not realize you were a 1K and thought you were trying to "upgrade" to E+ for free.

Or maybe it was a figment of my own imagination.
