I've noticed the cost per mile seems to vary with itineraries. Some are around .02 per mile, which is not a bad price. Others are closer to .03 per mile.

Still not a good deal, just less bad
I thought the price seemed lower than usual today. Thanks for explaining it to me!

Ok....
So after some thought I took advantage of the 20% off the award accelerator.
A whopping $3053,- for 127.224 miles.
As I'm moving to Australia from Norway in 1 month and prices from Melbourne to Europe are disgusting, this kind of comes out to the same price as an economy ticket. With the few extra miles I have to make it a c-class award ticket it's all good.
I kind of look at it as an investment. Well, as long as UA is still around.
So as UA wants 150.000 miles from Australia to Norway for a C-class award ticket I reckon it was a good deal. (even though it might be a fluke getting such an award ticket, but time will show).
Call me crazy.....but hey, I'm not compaining....yet

Never use it but always whip out my cell phone to do the CPM math.....maybe one day Ill get a .02 and click yes

In case you are wondering if I stand at the check-in line and do that math; no that would be rude. I go to the kiosks in ORD or IAD once I am in the terminal and have nothing else to do.

Award Accelerator madness price: 24 cents mile?

UAL must really think there are some suckers out there...

8,606 Award Accelerator miles 2,065.00 USD
17,212 Award Accelerator miles 4,131.00 USD

is someone at UAL smoking wacky weed?

this is for an intl business class (Z) ticket. The 17,212 award accelerator costs more than the ticket did!!!!

no way

seems like there are many ways to acquire miles at a lower cost. But a sucker is born every day.

Anyone have any insight into how much revenue United makes with this program?

I have had several tickets lately where the accelerator was 2-3x the price of the ticket.

It's laughable.

Agreed.

A sucker is born every day.

Good for United, though.

would a higher fare class be the reason for generating a higher cost for an AA?

I just looked at some other itineraries and this appears to not be the case.

for all my current flights the rate is 24 cents a mile. too funny UAL.

maybe this means AA is going to be killed?

Indeed; I've got one of those coming up shortly, where the cheapest Award Accelerator option offered is significantly higher than the ticket price (a W-class international ticket).

That seems awfully high. I'm offered 26,128 miles for $627. NOT that I'd dream of doing it.

LOL it's only 23.99 cents a mile

Yes, laughable considering you could buy a 2nd ticket for yourself and earn the miles (RDMs, not EQMs) and have an empty seat next to you!

I asked once as I was checking in if anyone ever paid for those options and I was told that some people do ... I suppose they must if they continue to have them.

If my math is right, that's only 2.39 cents a mile, not 23.99.
