UA FLIGHT 937 IAD-ORD NOW 3-cabin 777

FYI:

Looks like as of 6/7/05 IAD-ORD flights 937 are running 3-cabin 777s..
Also earlier flights are running 763 3-cabin config.

This seems very unusual since its such a sort distance flight..

Used to be 744 even - just hub-to-hub repositioning. Nothing unusual about it, IMHO.

Just booked my flight on it and the cabins were WIDE OPEN. Why waste a plane when you can accommodate the same amount of PaX on a 737 or 757

It was a 777 last summer. I did a mini-MR on the same flight last July 4th.

3-class 777 used to be regular aircraft for ex UA 382/383 ORD-IAD-ORD, just somehow they change to a 3 class 767. When they used a 744 on this flight, there were only 5 people in C class including myself. But as there are only 5 people in C class, I had the worst service ever on a 744, I would think less people should get better service, but it is actually the other way.

When are you flying? Remember, just because you see lots of open seats and inventory buckets open from availability doesn't necessarily mean the flight is empty.

As to the reason why "waste a plane" - repositioning doesn't mean a plane is "wasted." It just means that they needed to move that plane from one airport to another to start a flight. For example, since most European departures are in the evening, they could technically take a 777/747 from ORD in the early afternoon and fly it to IAD to start an evening transatlantic flight. Much better than flying it on a wholly domestic routing, don't you think?

I'm on this flight next week on the way to ZRH and was so happy to see this also! Although the 767 wasn't all bad, it is great to see the intl 777 planes operating some domestic routes again for the summer.

they are both good but the 777 is better.. Biz has 1.5 inches more width and First has the suites.

Exactly, especially because the UnitedBusiness cabin crew thinks "Darn it, if those 5 pax were not here, we could chat 100% of the flight," which is what they often do anyway.

What type of 777 is this flight? I was booked on the 763 but my res is now showing the 777 and I don't know much about the UA 777s. What's the best seat, the computer put me in 9A. Thanks.

Interesting development, but clearly a 'positioning' flight. On the other hand, the need for more 777s in trans-Pacific has led to flights 875-876 being flown NRT-SEA and then turned and sent back to NRT Prior to last schedule change 876 continued (in standard time) to do SEA-DEN and then, I think, on to ORD. Westbound 875 was a 320, 737 or 757 DEN-SEA and the 777 came directly from ORD-SEA. No problem filling the SEA-DEN 777. It tended to run full almost every time I took it.
