There are two versions of this configuration. They have the same number of seats in each cabin, however the rear lavatory configuration is different.
United's website now refers to these configurations as Version 3 and Version 4.
Version 3: United Domestic 777 "High Density" Configuration ("Version 3")
Version 4: United Domestic 777 "High Density" Configuration ("Version 4")

You're on N776UA. That's No. 2 in this configuration; N780UA was the first.

I don't know if they even have the technical capability to do it, but I can tell you that I deliberately turned my on and no one showed up for the 2 hours i left it illuminated
What a piece of junk.

Makes me wonder... if the 773s are going 3-4-3 in the back, will they get the same Y seats (and same call buttons)? Is the ding-fiesta audible up front?

The ding is real. The 3 4 3 wasn't that bad but the ding is not fun!!! UA execs please fly this aircraft like I have multiple times. You need to fix this and not continue putting the call button at the current location.

Beg to differ on the 3-4-3 though UA isn't unique in putting this backbreaker config in. The ding is very, very real.

It's worse than the 2 x 5 x 2 I just flew this week as both ways I had the seat open next to me. The new config is much tighter and the seats are not confortable but at the end of the day, it feels better than a 737.

As our waist lines get bigger airline seats are getting smaller.

Yeah, my ORD-SFO was originally scheduled as a Hawaii configuration, but switched to this new one around 1-2 days prior to the flight.
I wasn't specifically listening for this issue, so the bings may have been happening. However, if they were indeed going on all night, it wasn't loud/frequent enough to have bothered me...

Just thought I would share couple pics. Arm rest + tablet/phone holder in case it hasn't been posted before

Thanks for the picture. As I said earlier, they just need to move it up a bit. I actually like the tablet holder. I would prefer AVOD, but the tablet holder is nice!
