No. You will need to track and report that income yourself, without the help of a 1099.

I believe it's when they push from the gate.

Although the arrival is what really matters for purposes of the on time numbers.

I recently flew UA927 (FRA-SFO) on June 12th. I booked a U-class ticket and used a GPU, it didn't clear, no big deal, until I looked at my united app before leaving FRA and it shows one open seat. I was #1 on the upgrade list and it left (according to the app) 51 of 52 seats filled.

I emailed 1KVoice and got the following reply:

Dear Mr. RockinPete:

I am sorry you were not upgraded on your flight from Frankfurt.

It could have been because the seat was broken or if it was blocked because of weight restrictions. We realize communication is essential and based on your comments; clearly we could have done a better job.
Mr. Mitchell as a Premier 1K MileagePlus member, we greatly appreciate your business and demonstrated loyalty. We certainly look forward to serving you again soon. I am confident we will work hard to provide a level of service you have come to expect from United Airlines.

Best Regards,
No compensation offered.

This is not legal or tax advice, but I don't think the ETCs would be considered income - they are more akin to rebates or coupons.

I'm a CPA, but not a tax specialist, so I will defer to you on that one.

Yes, and you need to report any FF tickets as income well for the benefit received.

I do not think in the history of aviation travel the IRS has ever audited someone and required them to pay taxes on compensation.

That being said... YMMV. (i.e. Don't blame me if you are the first! )

I log the income received from my frequent-flier awards on a spreadsheet right next to the income I receive when I use a Free Guac coupon at Chipotle.

What and how to request compensation

Originally booked in P (BF) on a 763. It goes mechanical and now I end up in S (Econ) on a 738. I believe I'm owed some compensation here. But I'm unclear on how to request this. Do I email 1KVoice or some other entity?

Thanks

I've come to the conclusion that the compensatory ETCs are basically discount coupons for future UA (and only UA) flights. It's not like UA is giving me cash to do whatever I wish with it. ETCs are not income.

I did not know these existed... where can I obtain such greatness?

You're due a refund of the additional amount you paid over your fare basis (probably S since that's what you were rebooked on). I forget if there was somewhere to see this amount based on the receipt/Saudi breakdown, maybe someone else can chime in?

Other than that no compensation is generally given unless there was a significant delay caused by the MX etc..

Last week, First Class with miles, SEA-EWR, DirectTV did not work for Mrs. 110pgl. FA simply refused to try a reset. Was told multiple times it will come back. Never did.

Emailed. No compensation.

Ok, Scheduled delay was only 3 hours, but actual delay was on the order of about 5 hours, that my rebooked flight left almost 90 minutes later than scheduled.

But I still have my original question of who/how do I contact for the fare difference refund? The P Fare also got me 1.5 PQM on the EWR->IAH segment and am I still entitled to that bonus?

Its all so confusing.
