United - Origami airplane timelapse
Find hidden prizes in our new safety video contest 7 - 11 Aug
Before commenting about Jeff not being in the new video, please note that he was not in the old one. There is still a pre-roll video, and he's still in it.
The a numerous humorous interplays in the video, but a few might escape attention in first viewing:
0:28 Guy on a unicycle with baguettes playing the accordion, zipping by the signs that says no unicycles, baguettes and accordion
0:35 origami crane, Eiffel Tower model, and flamingo in taxi (tie-back to previous ad programs and other elements within the video)
1:34 Movie poster in the background for "Elbow Room 2"
1:36 & 1:56 Bus scrolling sign ("Lavatory Occupied" and "Baggage on Carousel 2")
1:41 The marquee is showing on the vegas casino "Legroom Friendly", with the chorus girls doing a kickstand
2:06 Men fighting on top of gondola (Same two from the Elbow Room 2 poster)
2:37 Kangaroo / pouch double entendre
3:20 FA blowing out smoke from the volcano after explaining the no smoking regulations
3:55 "I heart UA" carved on the tree
4:03 Bag overhead storage (no bins)
4:20 "No flight attendants were harmed in the making of this film" flashed while FA appears to be bitten

I like it.
And always enjoy Rhapsody in Blue and happy to hear the original at the very beginning and end of the video...brings to mind UA, good or bad, prior to merger.
Then to end with the CO livery on the plane. Not bad.
(though I concede they may need to update that livery in a few years.)

^ Very nicely and tastefully done! I especially liked the James Bond-esque sequence on the gondola.
You may be right; but imo VX's music score and overproduction are a bit distracting to the overall message. It's a good compare-and-contrast with the new UA video, both of which are about 5 minutes. Again, YMMV, but I get to score them, I'll give UA's an 85, VX's a 70.

I love it...they found a way to make it fun and different than Delta's!
I wonder if the fact it is not on an aircraft does not provide the same type of quality for safety information though. I can see some people (that would require, still, a video to explain the safety features) saying that this does not show an aircraft. It does not appear real and therefore, does not demonstrate what the area may look like in the need of an emergency.
Also thought it was interesting that they did not feature Jeff Smisek, that they air brushed the guy in the set of seats on the beach, and that they chose to continue the Rhapsody tune (which I love). Just my observations...I can see a lot of FAs rolling their eyes at this, but I comment the enthusiasm and unique effort that seems so out of line for United. Hilarious, to me, are the "updated" 1980s uniforms still on display and being used by UA. It's cool to be fun and hip in your marketing, but your uniforms (the most enticing being the female blue dress with two lines) do not convey that (at least in the same way that airlines like Delta or Virgin or ANZ do)

I like the new video. It keeps your attention and focuses on employees from a variety of different UA-served markets. Well done.

The last time I flew UA was from Boston to Doha via Dulles and Dubai and seeing Smisek on the safety videos and all over the magazine was awful. That stupid grin... Can only imagine what the crew thought. So this a step in the right direction.
That being said, I know UA is trying hard to push its global reach, but what about swapping a few of the international spots for some domestic ones? Their hubs are NYC, Dc, Chicago, Houston, Denver, LA and San Fran, there has to be some shots they could do there beyond a taxi. Moreover, at five minutes long, it would be better if there was some kind of shuffle, so you don't always see the same people doing the same segment.
The pilot in France was pretty funny, IMHO. Definitely entertaining.

Rhapsody in Blue is the best airline theme song.
The safety videos are a waste of time. Their only function is to reduce the lawsuits against the airlines in case of an incident. Four minutes of video instruction isn't going to make a difference. I appreciate the humor. All the points are covered.

I like it, if for no other reason, that there isn't smilin' SMI/J telling me about changes I'm going to like. Here's a happy thought: maybe he isn't in the video because UAL doesn't want to have to remake it when he's gone, hopefully soon.

Why is UA wasting their money on a new safety video when they are removing the IFE systems from their domestic aircraft? There is no way to forcibly stream a safety video onto passengers' mobile devices.

I too like the new safety video. It's not the greatest of the humorous safety videos, but highlighting the different destinations, and the comical juxtaposition of demonstrating things we take for granted on an aircraft if they were to be done in the real world, is at least a unique spin.
I might posit that those who are so worked up over a safety video are not going to be swayed by anything this airline does anyway.

How many safety videos has Jeff been in? I think it is zero.

I'm not the biggest fan of it. But when you have a captive audience, you can make it as long as you want and include whatever you want.
Coming soon to a plane near you:
Exclusive in-flight entertainment including feature length safety demonstrations!

At first I didn't like it, thought it was too corny and mimicking Delta's video's. When I watched it again, I found a lot of clever hidden things that made me laugh and really pay attention to try to find more. I will throw out 2 things to look for and at least one more is in the video.
1. Check out the items on the dash of the cab.
2. Look at the carving on the palm tree.
How many other things funny or cute things did I miss that others might find?

His would change monthly. Expect a 30 second leadin to the main video forever.
As to the main video, it is different, a bit too slow paced, but not bad.
The Japanese FA also being an Origami expert struck me as being too much stereotyping.
