Key info from article:

"Federal occupational health and safety authorities slapped United Airlines with 16 citations and proposed penalties of up to $101,300 Tuesday for repeated violations at Newark Airport.

The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration said that a January inspection of the airlines’ Newark terminal found violations that had also been noted in 2011 and 2013. (Bolding mine)

'These workers face electrical hazards, falls, and being struck by objects and equipment daily,' said Kris Hoffman, director of OSHA's Parsippany Area Office.

The three repeat violations carried a $55,000 penalty, Hoffman said. They included United’s failure to mark its exits for employees, using extension cords when required permanent wiring was missing at their Newark terminal and other electrical hazards.

The airline also got hit with nine serious violations totaling $46,300 in possible fines."..........

Didn't know that the Port Authority could order a business to increase its workers' pay. Is that a condition of doing business in areas in its domain (like the NYC airports)??

Off topic, but this was discussed in another thread. UA gave in after first resisting. It had to do with contract workers cleaning planes, etc. jetBlue still fighting. About $1 per hour raise the result. UA will delete some more benefits to Premiers to cover the costs.

They'll just take away the limes again. That should cover it. In fact, there should probably even be enough savings to increase the bonuses for the C-suite.
