How to Retain Premier Gold status ?
Hi,
I'm a lurker for ages and this is my first post.
I will hit 52,000 miles this year, and finally getting my first Gold status for 2015, woohoooo, but I was wondering how do I retain my Gold status for 2016 ? Do I have to earn another 50K or is there any threshold like 12k or something ?
Thanks!!

Don't forget in addition to the mile threshold, if you are US-based, you also need $5,000 spend on UA to get gold status.

Actually, you have to hit $5k in premier qualifying dollar (PQD) spend PLUS either 50k premier qualifying miles (PQM) OR 60 premier qualifying segments (PQS).
If you hit 50k or more PQM, but only $3k PQD, you'll be stuck at Silver.
Silver: $2,500 PQD + 25k PQM or 30 PQS
Gold: $5,000 PQD + 50k PQM or 60 PQS
Platinum: $7,500 PQDM + 75k PQM or 90 PQS
1K: $10,000 PQD + 100k PQM or 120 PQS
Note that if you are outside the US or spend $25k or more on a MileagePlus branded credit card, the PQD requirement is waived.

On January 1st, that PQM counter will become 0. Then you have to start all over. For instance, last year I flew 163,000. January 1, 0. This year I have done about 90,000. Loyalty is a year on year thing.

Depends what you are trying to get out of the program. If it's just the Star Alliance Gold status, then Aegean Airlines Miles & Bonus may be worth it. Earn just 16k miles for Star Gold status.
