29 October 2012 - UA 777 in CLE?

I am in CLE trying to get the east coast. I see a UA 777 parked near the terminal, but not at the terminal. I presume a 777 is not usually parked here. Any ideas why it is here, diverted from where ?

United most likely moved it from one of either EWR or IAD to keep it out of the path of Sandy so it does not get damaged

Maybe you haven't heard but a large hurricane is destroying the east coast so all airlines are moving aircraft.

If you listen to virtually all of the news outlets, they have just stopped short of telling viewers to build an ark.

So, yes! Hyperbole is rampant today

Now back to the OP:

Absolutely. But since I have the day off, I've started building my Ark.

I did a double take at EWR yesterday. The gate monitor said CLE and a 772 was parked at the gate. This may have been where it came from.

good thing they have a hublette in CLE to handle all those CO aircraft from EWR...

At the end of the day, CLE sees almost as many 747's as EWR... and we should only be lucky to catch a ride in those babies!

Sorta on topic but I wonder how many widebodies UA has sent to international destinations so they can surge once conditions allow at EWR and IAD to get stranded passengers internationally back to the US?

It's not a hub, it's an overflow parking lot.

Wonder if we're going to see some 777 and 747 activity on the transcons to give extra capacity later in the week to cover a couple of days of backlog.
