Separate reservations - Non-Elite Companion Benefits?

My wife and I are on the same flight, I will be travelling for business (AMEX reservation) and she will be travelling with me (directly booked on United.com). In order for her (non-elite) to be my "companion" for upgrades and E+ seating, can I call and have her linked to me? I Know that a a PNR cannot be changed once booked, but are there other options to link her to me?

I found some other threads in the search that indicate that you can link the separate PNRs together, but would this have her in the same standing as me for upgrades?

Thanks! Wondering how the new system does this.

Like every other airline reservations system out there it is not possible to meaningfully tie the separate PNRs together. And the elite benefits officially only apply if you start on the same PNR. So officially you are screwed.

Unofficially you can call in and there's a pretty good chance the agent will move your wife into E+ next to you. At the airport you can have her added to the upgrade list as a companion but your CPU will process independent of her based on your status.

Well too bad we can't get anything too officially. Haven't booked yet so I will have to see what we can do, perhaps I can find another way around this.

Either way, thanks for the info, that really helps out a lot.

Call UA reservations and they will be able to seat you together in E+.
try until you get an agent that will do this for you. not everyone will do this for you.

Since you haven't book and if her ticket was booked less than 24 hours ago, then refund her ticket and book a new ticket with both of you on the same reservation. Just a thought. Safe Travels!

Not possible in the op's case. Most corporations don't allow family
bookings.
