Dedicated 767 Fleet at IAH

It just dawned on me that IAH has a dedicated 767-300 fleet, so to speak. I can’t think of any other situation like this, outside of 737s at GUM.

IAH has four year-round 763 destinations:

MUC
GIG
LIM
MCO
SCL (seasonal)
SJU (seasonal)

These outstations don’t receive 763s from other cities, which means the aircraft return to IAH.

The part that surprises me is that UA is no longer scheduling domestic 763 flights to/from IAH, so six 763s are essentially orphaned at Houston unless UA runs non-passenger flights to move them around.

I am curious why UA has stopped scheduling 763s to other hubs from IAH. MCO and SJU are interesting, but would think EWR would make more sense to allow greater network flexibility.

I wish UA would use one of them for the IAH-HNL route. Give the 772HD to some other lucky winner.

I would say your assessment is correct. UA has 2 versions of the 763, one with 30 J seats the other with 46. Based on data from Flightaware the 30J config frequently does international routes from IAH while the 46J does routes from ORD, EWR, IAD, although there are certain exceptions.

I think the 30J 763s do some seasonal TATL flying from EWR. Places like BER, PRG, and DBV come to mind.

UA doesn't fly to PRG. EWR-DBV/BER are served by 764.

UA only has 13 30J 763. Going through their NS24 schedule, I couldn't find a single international EWR flight with the 30J 763.

I do miss the intra-hub 767 services. For a period of time, I was really enjoying the IAH-IAD Polaris cabin flights. Sorry to see it go.

I think this summer has a new schedule/fleet deployment pattern. Last summer there were 30J 763s flying EWR-DBV/PMI and possibly one or two other routes.
