This isn't an advertised discount, this is a compensation voucher with specific terms and conditions sadly

Also I'm SYD based and so all my tickets are bought from the australian end of the long UAL arm and mostly exempt from half the DOT regulations but fully covered by glorious Austrailian Fair Trade regulations (much better in most cases)

As things stand today (in at least most of the world), these two are not the case on United. Award tickets do NOT pay for YQ, and all advertised fares in most (all?) markets include YQ.

I wouldn't be surprised if UA starts collected YQ on some, if not all, award tickets in the near future.

As ExpertFlyer confirms above, it's just their bug to be missing some surcharges. Other 3rd party sites handle it fine fully inclusive of all surcharges.

Those are important distinctions, and show why you would be doubly exempted. FlyerTalkers (and UA customers) are an international breed, but I posit that far more UA customers are covered by U.S. DOT fare/ discount provisions than not.

It's a great law - it's not just 2 free bags, rather 2X70 bags! Even for that no status, el-cheapo in Y passenger!

Maybe not surprising given current management that views elites as over-entitled, but hugely disappointing if this happens.
