Citywing Into Liquidation

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-39241378

So no more:

Blackpool to Isle of Man
Cardiff to Anglesey
Gloucestershire to Isle of Man
Gloucestershire to Jersey
Isle of Man to Belfast
Glasgow to Isle of Man
Newcastle to Isle of Man

Probably the final nail in the coffin for Blackpool Airport.

And Staverton as well, perhaps? Though it has reasonable levels of general aviation.

I expect Gloucestershire to survive for that reason. Anglesey is an RAF base so thgat will also survive.

Could be the end of Blackpool, though.

bugger

Bang goes our Easter trip to IoM to visit family

Booked direct, paid with a debit card (because their c/c fee was ridiculous) - am I SOL in terms of getting any money back from them?

That's a bit of a pain.

Have a read of this, then I guess you need to contact your bank.

Also, if you have an annual travel insurance policy, have a look at that.

Eastern Airways has taken over the routes for Cardiff to Anglesey and IOM to Belfast City and Newcastle as of yesterday. To my great surprise, Eastern are only charging £19.99 from Anglesey.

Negotiations are going on for the Glasgow route with an airline.

No news on the others yet.

I think the CWL-Anglesey service is heavily subsidised by the Welsh government. Interesting that T3 have taken on the IOM services again though - they used to fly NCL-IOM many years back I'm sure.

Thanks ST - will call the bank and ask. And I do have an annual policy (with Amex) but they don't cover insolvency, which apparently is the norm...

Is this the 'airline' that sold seats on some dodgy aircraft that had safety issues?

I'm with insureandgo and see they offer £5,000 worth of SAFI cover on their most basic policy. So I'm not sure if they are the outlier or if it's AMEX. Arguably it could be AMEX as they would expect you to have booked with the card, triggering s.75 cover.

Sort of. The dodgy "virtual airline" was Manx2, which caused all sorts of problems when they had a fatal crash at Cork in 2011. Manx2 was bought by Citywing, which was also a "virtual airline". The people behind Citywing were exactly the same people behind Manx2.

Latest advice is that Eastern Airways will give you a "special fare" from Newcastle and Belfast, but to get your money back it'll be s75/chargeback.
