Day Trip from Dublin - Country Hop

My fiancé and I will be in Ireland in March for the Saint Patrick's Day festivities. On Friday, we have a full day to explore. How feasible would it be to add in another country? Which country would be closest?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! We really appreciate it!

Best,

Ambition

Northern Ireland is probably the easiest. Of course short flights to London, Amsterdam, or Brussels are easy enough as well.

It would be difficult to do any of those in just a day though as travel time would take most of your time. If you only have a day I'd recommend doing a day within Ireland. Somewhere on the coast, such as Howth, might work well.

If you look at a map you'll see that the closest country to the RoI is the UK.

Also note, St Patrick's day, is a much longer event now, it usually goes on for a number of days 17th to 20th this year.

It's worth pointing out that should you go from Ireland to the UK, you'll be treated as a domestic passenger and won't have to waste time queuing for immigration (Ireland and the UK are part of the CTA - Common Travel Area).

Thanks! I did look at a map and did some further research. I have a few ideas of where we would like to go!

Thanks, Dubal! I did see this in my research. We will be in Dublin for 3 days so I am sure I will get my fill of the festivities. So much to do...

I've removed a couple of posts from the thread. Please do keep it welcoming and helpful, and use the 'report post' icon if there is a post you take issue with.

I'd go south to Glendalough http://www.glendalough.ie/ if you want to spend a day, maybe the train/ rental to Galway or Belfast if you have 3 days.
