LHR MCT between VS and KL and AF

Was trying to use Skymiles for an award on VS connecting to KL or AF but noticed that ITA Matrix is showing minimum 5 hours between VS and KL/AF flights.

Checking EF

STANDARD.D/D...D/I...I/D...I/I.

OFFLINE .45 1.15 1.15 1.30

Seeing something similar with KL.

Is this correct? It takes 4 hours to connect Virgin to Air France or KLM (Terminal 3 to Terminal 4)!

Where as MCT for LHR to LCY/LGW/LTN/STN are all under 4 hours.

Even 4hrs seems excessive.

What happens if you 'pretend' it's a DL flight rather than a VS one?

The standard LHR MCT between terminals 3 and 4 is 90 minutes but that's what the airport says.

Many airlines often have their own MCTs in excess of the airports and that is the one that will apply when making a booking.

4 hours does seem very excessive though. But maybe it's AF/KL wanting to avoid lots of misconnects.

MCT is not the minimum time it takes to connect, it is the minimum time an airline allows for connecting from one flight to another flight which includes risk of misconnecting and sometimes (as may be the case here) to discourage connections between certain flights/carriers.

The standard MCT is shown for LHR, however airlines may choose to put a lower or higher MCT for various reasons. You can't do anything about this and cannot ticket an itinerary that does not meet MCT.

Looks like the only connection AF wants is from DL (90 minutes) - Some DL flights fly into Terminal 3. Every other airline flying into Terminals 1, 3, and 4 requires 4 hours.
