Great advice
Back from our trip and so grateful for the advice on these forums. As many of you guessed, we had seriously underestimated driving time and difficulty in Scotland. We would never have made the earlier flight. So we got a flight several hours later and arrived at the airport unrushed and with time to spare. The drive from Oban was indeed gorgeous!
