Turkish Airlines - Economy Class (IST-YUL, A333)
Hi all!
For today's trip report, we are flying from Istanbul to Montreal, with Turkish Airlines on an Airbus A330-300 (TK35). Economy class for me!
View outside the window.
The very generous amenity kit onboard TK.
Soon after take-off, we get served meal #1.
We begin with a Turkish delight.
Then, I receive a quite enjoyable meal.
Veal was the main course, but as you can see, plenty of sides!
The veal was the best item here, and the second best was the chocolate mousse, but what was really great was the large quantity of food. Onboard Turkish Airlines, I have felt full after eating a meal, which never happens in economy class on other airlines.
A view out the window, while still over Europe.
Obligatory legroom shot, of course! It was quite disappointing, as I'm 180cm and found it to be very cramped. Weirdly though, the legroom onboard THY's smaller planes (A319, for instance) is much, much more generous.
Anyway, I grabbed a few hours' sleep, as this was a 10 hour flight. (10 hours was the advertised flight time, we only were in the air for 9.)
The IFE screen.
The in-flight entertainment selection wasn't bad, but the screen itself was. The low-resolution was annoying, but I had to press very hard and multiple times for the system to recognize my input. What's more, the sun was shining into my screen. I know, I could have lowered the window blind, but I like to enjoy the sun on day-time flights. So, I let the sun shine through!
Second meal service!
I took the pasta.
Pasta with aubergines.
The meal.
The side.
This made my day: Apple Strudel!
Another great meal provided by Turkish Airlines! They have the best catering service, for economy class at least, in the world, apparently (I read this in a magazine, can't remember which one, though.)
One other thing that is great about this airline, is the beverage service!
I had many cups of freshly squeezed orange juice and homemade lemonade!
Absolutely awesome drink selection!
The view from 21A.
Soon after, we begin the descent into Canada.
Here are picture of the descent and approach into Montreal Pierre-Elliot Trudeau YUL Airport.
The Olympic Stadium!
We are landing on runway 24R, the longest runway at YUL.
The landing was smooth enough. As we were taxiing to our gate, I spotted PH-KCA, KLM's first MD-11, otherwise known as Amy Johnson, which is the only MD-11 that I flew on. What was special today, was that this was her last flight (YUL-AMS), so I snapped a photo of her at the gate. A special plane indeed. Today, there are no passenger MD-11's flying in the world, as KLM, the last airline flying them, has retired them with full honours.
PH-KCA, Amy Johnson, before performing her last commercial flight, Montreal to Amsterdam.
Well that's it folks! To conclude, THY has a great economy class, highlighted by the great catering, but brought down by the minimal legroom and the rather annoying IFE touch screens. Not the best eco class in the world, but it's up there!
Thank you all for reading this trip report, and until next time! Safe travels!

Great TR - thanks for posting. The food looked better than ua domestic F and I loved the amenity kit. Very easy and sweet of TK to offer!

Agreed with the OP.
TK, and many more, offer larger pitch on NB than WB.
The Y cabins and IFE generally don't look impressive or above the average.
Quite underwhelming, in fact.
EK is still a world apart. But catering quality are top notch.

Nice report.
I'm flying this exact route in April 2015, albeit in business thankfully.
My last long haul economy flight with TK was ORD-IST in 2010. I was pleased with the catering with DO & CO. They do a stellar job.
It was also neat to see that an amenity kit was offered in economy as well. I don't believe we got one in 2010. ^
