I'm living in Indonesia for most of the year, these days. My Bahasa is horrid, but I can pick a few things up.

Laporan yang baik ya I'm headed to Jakarta next month and really excited about it -- great to see pics of the food there. I must try the Sup Buntut and Nasi Langgi!

Btw, I'm in SF too (well, actually in Marin).

Martabak is one of my favorite snack! You should definitely give it a try. I have to warn you though it could be VERY buttery, so I usually have to squeeze out the butter

Terima kasih! Oh wow, didn't know so many people in FT speaks Indonesian My most favorite sup buntut is at the Intercontinental hotel, if you are in the area I would recommend going there to try it. Otherwise, I'm sure most Indonesian restaurants would have it on their menus too.

Nasi Langgi is wonderful and you can probably find it on the typical food court. My other favorite is Nasi Gudeg.

Oh cool! My husband's family is from Marin. In that case, have you been to Sol Food? It's my favorite restaurant in Marin (well actually San Rafael

Sama sama! Actually, I'm ex-Malaysian, so still speak Bahasa. Used to work in Jakarta years ago, and really enjoyed my time there. I'll definitely check out the Sup Buntut in Intercon -- I'm staying at Le Meridien, so not too far away. Never had Nasi Langgi or Nasi Gudeg, just Nasi Padang. The other thing I'm waiting to try is Kopi Luwak.

Wow, small world! I live just 10 mins away from Sol Food! I usually do take out it gets very crowded. If you'd like to connect off-forum, pls PM or email me! Would love other foodie tips for JKT.
