Buying Airberlin tickets JFK to DME through S7 Airlines

My dilemma: JFK to DME all on Airberlin is much less expensive if purchased through S7 website (found through skyscanner)

1) safe to purchase? (Unsure if credit card protections hold)

Help! Will save us $1000+ on a family purchase.

Dilemma? I don't see how it would be "unsafe" to purchase, isn't it a Oneworld partner?

Yes, they are a oneworld partner. I found one Internet post where someone complained about a similar purchase in the EU that went wrong. About 40% off the Airberlin price; hence the caution.

Thanks for the reply!

Use a credit card, if you want extra protection, but I had no problem with booking S7 tickets using an American CC (other than having to talk to fraud department, when the initial purchase was declined).

The main thing buying with a US-issued CC gets you is a refund if the airlines do not deliver the services promised. And that's great, but it is not a replacement ticket.

Also consider that S7 (and the other Russian airlines) have been seen as financially unstable and at risk of failure for a little while now. Were that to happen there is the chance that AB would not honor the ticket as it would not be paid for such, but that's mostly unlikely. Still worth considering.

Thanks and great points. I would hope Airberlin would honor a one world ticket, but who knows.
