Child-Free Seating on aircraft?
Is it possible to request a seat away from children on a plane?

Other than exit rows, airlines don't designate areas of the plane as "no kids allowed". Thus there's little you can do at reservation time to avoid children being assigned seats near you. At boarding time you can observe where people are sitting and ask to swap if you'd rather not be near a child-- or any other particular person, for that matter.

Only pilots get the child-free zone.
Everyone else gets the luck of the draw.
If the flight is not filled to capacity you
may have the option of moving.

You can always ask, whether the request will be granted is another matter. I always ask if there are any under 12's near me when I check my bag at the airport and have found to have much better luck with Asian carriers than any others at getting seats away from kids, especially if you explain the reason is due to noise and migraines.

so, you get the childless exit row, and there is a hyper active in the row behind you kicking the seat the whole trip.

Or, you actually *do* get a childless section of the plane...and you're seated next to a guy who's been eating beers since 9AM.
