Thank you all for your replies, they have been most informative.

Anyone knows whether the concorde engine also had a fan at the front? I remember them having a square shape so I'm wondering. I know absolutely nothing about jet engines

For questions around the fan doors, scroll down to the "AIR FLOW and INTAKES" section which explains how the ramps are to slow down the air going into the engine to subsonic speeds.
