The first 747

Nice article on restoring the first Boeing 747. Lots of pictures. Thought I would share with the community. Enjoy.

I logged about 25 missions on RA001 as a Boeing flight test engineer (Feb 79 to Sep 81) ... good to hear about this restoration effort

That is a great museum. Visited last year. Great for aviation geeks of any kind!

Nice article. The 747 always had a special place in my heart.

Sadly this great aircraft's condition deteriorated dramatically whilst in the museum's care. They claimed for years they did not have the funds to do anything to preserve it, but simultaneously did crazy things like build a huge enclosure on spec, to compete for custody of a NASA Space Shuttle they did not get. (They put a good face on it and called the building a "space gallery," and displayed some leftover shuttle stuff they got as consolation prizes including a mockup/trainer, but it was an expensive gamble many thought ill-advised.)
