Cool, Interesting, or Unusual Stores

What are some of the more interesting, cool, or unusual stores you have visited?

Boston has a couple - Funusual in Quincy market, and Black Ink in Harvard Square carry unique fun things. And You-do-it electronics in Needham is a Radio Shack like they used to be.

I will forever miss the original Spags, back when he and his wife were still alive.

There's a fun store called Pepper Palace in New Orleans and over a dozen other US cities, mostly in the South and Southwest: http://www.pepperpalace.com/default.asp Mostly stocked with hundreds of colorfully named hot sauces, though it has numerous other items as well. We bought a great Bloody Mary mix there.

Yay! Ax-Man is still around. I bought a couple of stuffed animals there almost 40 years ago. Armadillos. My recommendation is Evangeline's Costume Mansion in Sacramento. I love that place! Not just costumes but all kinds of crazy stuff.

Powell's City of Books, downtown Portland, OR., is worth the experience.

I have roughly a zero tolerance policy for kitsch, though if I was looking for horseradish and a lighter in the shape of a soccer ball at 3am in Tokyo, Don Quijote was the place.

old town albuquerque - the christmas shop. lots of southwest-themed christmas decorations (i need to go back to get a few more strings of chile lights).

chile traditions in albuquerque - a good place to buy a ristra or other chile-themed food and knickknacks.

utsuwa-no-yakata, little tokyo, LA. very nice decorative and functional japanese ceramics/pottery.

Yup...

"Smart shops" in AMS fit the category of unusual stores.

I clicked on this thread just to mention Tokyu Hands

Japan is the king of these kinds of interesting, quirky stores. Someone else mentioned Don Quijote, and there is also Daiso. I know it's "just" a dollar store but the range of products in there is amazing... you can go nuts finding treasures in there and in the end you'd be out less than $30.
