In order to get a more focused audience for your question, I'll move the thread to "Travel Tools".

No real answer
In my opinion there is no real answer to this question. Google flights gives you an immense flexibility and the possibility to make a lot search requests in a short time. So to get an orientation this probably a good start.
From there I usually head over to kayak to confirm the flights I found. And if I have the feeling that there is more saving potential you can try skypicker. They have a diffferent business model searching exclusively for hacker fares. However they are also integrated in the kayak universe.
But I hope to be able to present a completely new search soon that finds completely different fares.

This is going to be a shameless plug, but it contributes to the question, so here you go:
TravelWits.com - finds remote airports at origin/destinatio,n and what it costs to get there.
I am actually on a team building it, so please let me know what you think, so we can take it in the right direction.

From where?
When in December? Late Dec is a peak travel time.
FT is not a travel agent nor has a secret source of cheap air fares
Look at the usual on line travel agents. Kayak, expedia & flights/google

First check matrix.itasoftware.com to have a complete picture
Then play with kayak.com to find the site with the best fare and schedule
Once you found that site, buy the ticket from it via any cashback site
This is how I normally do it.
