Clarification

Hi all,

Sorry for the confusion. This is a thread about internet access for travellers to Hong Kong. It's true that it may be cheap to buy SIM cards in HK, but there are a few downsides.

1) If you are traveling with your family, 3 SIM cards will not be as cheap.
2) May be sold out/hassle of making sure it works with your phone.

And plus - we are new to the game and are offering our services for free - so why not take a chance.

From the feedback of people that have used our service, it has not disappointed.

And a final bit to add - our mobi doubles as a power bank - so you can charge your phone as you explore HK.

Hope this clears up the air a bit.

Cheers,

all iOS/Android smartphones have "hotspot" functionality to share mobile connection via WiFi. No need for an additional device or chunk of battery. But that's just me.

Wow. You guys are so negative.

They're just trying to provide a service to some people that might want it!

For free? I'm sure some people would be happy to try it. It's of less utility to expat or native HKers, though. That said, traveling in the region means I'm carrying around at least 4 SIM cards now, swapping them in-and-out depending on where I'm going is a pain in the butt. It would be nice to have some sort of APAC regional mifi that I could just use instead.

Most of us wish the op well, but we also happen to know that using our phones as mifi devices is both cheap and easy in hk.

If he's doing it for free...god bless him.

If he's charging for the service, you're better off picking up a discounted sim card in Sham Shui Po and tethering from your phone.

I agree. The chance of a one SIM solution in the APEC countries is harder than EU.

I carry more SIM cards in my intra-Asia travels plus US, EU, UK and Canada than I have visas.

To prepare for landing:
Tray table locked
Armrest lowered
Seatback up
re-stow carry on
pack up wires and electronics
swap SIMs in BB Q10 and N7
reboot / reconfigure

Once in terminal:
Reprogram main number to forward to new location and forward messages during flight to new location

For data service all my devices are "tethered" via mifi to my phone with appropriate VPNs.

The solution OP is offering would be suitable for one time visitor. As with all products it boils down to what you are offering and how much you want for it.

Actually this is a great idea for those staying in hotels that charge extra for internet. I would gladly pay for internet service that I can use both in my hotel and also take with me when I'm out and about.

I might give this a try when I travel to HK in November, especially if the OP will drop off MiFi at my hotel.

@ siayjee, responded to your PM

@Peregrine - thanks for the vote of confidence. We are looking to really target the "out-and-about-crowd" especially in this day and age where the internet is a necessity in our daily lives. It especially compounds when a family/multiple people travel together.

Please feel free to submit your travel information on our site when you get a chance (and we'll be sure to include you in the free beta trial).
