Red face DcoveryŚ Like TripIt but for your web research. Thoughts?

When I was in Beijing not too long ago, I found myself searching google for things to do in Beijing and, no surprise... I found several restaurants and attractions recommended on blogs and travel sites.

Now, armed with my laptop I walked like an idiot to the concierge trying to figure out where on a paper map these places were and how to get there. It was a huge ordeal and well, in the two months I was there (on business) I didn't visit much because of the pain it was to organize everything.

After I got back, my friends and I decided to see if we could make an app that would make this whole process easier.

We created an app that extract places mentioned on any web page, then finds it on a map and fills in the missing information (opening hours, transit and reviews info). It then syncs it to your iPhone.

You can also use it collect places you don't want to forget about and Dcovery organizes it in city guides for you.

We built this to scratch an itch we have. I wonder what you guys think about it and if it'd be something you'd use too. I can't think of a better place than FT to get feedback on this. Thanks guys

It sounds extremely intriguing, and I look forward to trialing it. It appears that access is only via getting an invite by email. How long does that typically take?

We haven't sent out the invites yet. We are training our algorithms to get to an acceptable level of "place recognition" and will be sending the first invites later this month to about 100 people (limit imposed by Apple).

We want to learn if we're solving a big enough problem. For us, it's a godsend - but we really need to get it in the hands of people to start learning.

That looks fascinating and fresh. I'm unaware of others working in this space. I'll be eager to try it.

Very cool! I've had some experience on entity recognition having done some research in this area so if you need any comments i'd be happy to help!
