Has anyone played any of these war games (Clash of the Clans, Game of War, Boom Beach) that they're advertising all the time on TV?
They have great reviews in the App. Store but presumably they must be selling a lot of in-app boosts to be able to do so much TV ads. So maybe you can't do well in those games without buying a lot of the boost ups.

I have been playing Boom Beach for the last several months. I'm finally getting a little tired of it. I'm at the point where it's just too hard to attack most other players. Stalemate.
You can proceed just fine without paying, but paying means you get "diamonds", which you can use in the game to shortcut a lot of the stuff you'd ordinarily have to wait for. With diamonds, I can upgrade towers and soldiers to higher levels without needing to wait for my island to produce the necessary building materials. You can also earn diamonds more slowly for free by playing the game.

For fans of jailbreaking, interesting story about the iOS7 jailbreak.

Chinese businessmen willing to pay a million for jailbreak to side-load pirated apps mainly. But as we learned from the Hong Kong demonstrations, many Chinese jailbreak their iPhones to load Chinese apps. but make their iPhones vulnerable to snooping by Chinese security forces.

I've been playing it against coworkers. It's trivia, so the in app purchases mainly just help you if you're stuck (i.e. extra time to answer a question, second chance, and wipe away two of the incorrect answers).

I just deleted Lounge Buddy after yet another spammy notification from the app -- despite the fact that I have notifications off and despite the fact that email from the developer has "assured" me that they have removed all such.
Bad form.
