Great thread and am also considering returning to a decent point and shot camera besides using my Blackberry Q10 for taking photos.
Previously had a Motorola Droid Pro and also carried a Canon Powershot in the backpack but after getting the Blackberry Q10 ditched the extra camera.
Now thinking about returning to having a second camera available - appreciate all the helpful responses in this thread.

Rx100m4 is higher priced than when the predecessors launched?
Value proposition relative to EVIL is getting dubious, unless a prospective buyer is willing to pay for small form factor.

so you get to pick what category you want to be in (m1=cheap, m2=hotshoe, m3=evf+wide-less reach, m4=m3+pro video)

You can go cheaper but bigger: bridge/mirrorless/dSLR, cheaper/same price, equal/better quality
You can go cheaper but less quality/feature: Canon S100 (and the older RX100 versions)
This camera is the highest-end premium P&S. You only get this because you want the best quality/features in a compact package. No doubt, Sony wants to be king of this corner of the market (G7x seems to be the other competitor)
