Cheap decent RAW-shooting P&S?

I'm looking for a cheap (<$200) Point&Shoot camera for my wife to replace her Nikon Coolpix S2500. It's not a bad camera but since we're using RAW processing, it'd be nice to have that capability.

I haven't been able to make headway on choices due partially to lack of choice/availability in Canada. We're thinking of a Canon S110 which the canon.us store has refurbs on sale for $130. Is that a decent camera for the money?

The S-series Canon cameras are great little pocket cameras. For $130 that's a very good deal!

Sorry, made a mistake. It's the S100, not the S110.

I have no personal experience, but the DPR review is quite positive, with the "who this is best for" aligned with what you're asking for. At that price, given what it lists/sells for retail, I suspect it would be very hard to beat.

I agree. Under $200 for a Raw-capable camera is a tough ask. The one you found is likely to be the best you will get.

That's a great deal with 1 year warranty. I checked canon . us and couldn't find that price anymore. Now cheapest is $183

Back for $110.

If you buy one, check the serial number for the service bulletin, and then deliberately use it in hot and/or humid conditions to make sure it goes wrong and gets fixed.

Noted that this is a refurb. Should I be concerned about that?

They're fine - look brand new. Unfortunately when they went to get refurbed, Canon did not bother to fix the lens error issue.

Nikon Coolpix S9700
Nikon Coolpix S9700 - digital camera
Outside of some design quibbles, the Nikon Coolpix S9700 puts big zoom power and nice photo quality (snugly) in your pocket.
