Aerial Photography ... Ban?

Thankfully; this is just a NH state legislator making the proposal.

I guess the Live Free or Die mindset is going the way of the Old Man of the Mountain.

Just ridiculous.

This is insane AND unconstitutional. If I wish to photograph NH governor's house and put it on my blog, that is protected speech whether it is taken from the ground or from the air.

Cheers,

Under FAA regulations, "drones" taking photos/videos for commercial purposes are already banned. The FAA is to review the issue, but doesn't have to decide until 2015.

But that is an entirely different matter: as far as I can tell, banning certain kinds of aerial vehicles is fine by the constitution. Banning photography in public places is not. Furthermore, at least in its initial form, HB-619 did not specifically address drones, it concerned all kinds of aerial photography.

Cheers,
T.

The NH lawmakers are looking for work to do.

This part of the proposed bill is kind of interesting (my bold):
"or any device that is not supported by the ground"

Does that mean taking a photo from a building can be illegal? The camera (or phone) would certainly NOT be supported by the ground.

The FAA does not regulate RC aircraft <= 60# and operating <= 400' AGL.

The proposed NH reg is a tad broad. Okay, a lot too broad.

They certainly do regulate RC aircraft in the DC area and plenty of other flight-restricted zones: http://www.wtop.com/1313/3252354/Spy...n-the-District
