Shake Weight, Are they any good?

And do the work?

I'm thinking of getting and giving it a try.. I read some of the reviews on amazon and as usual amazon reviews aren't the most reliable.

Anyone here try the shake weight?

It's a great gag gift to give friends, but for an actual workout it's not beneficial. When you're weight lifting, part of the benefit is getting the full range of motion which the shake weight does not provide. It's a waste of $30 IMO.

I've never had the desire to try one. Why? Every time I see one I wonder how many people loose control of one and end up chipping their front teeth. They just look really dangerous to me.

Never used one. Can't imagine it would be better than real weights.

I received one for free, in a swag bag. Tried it once, didn't seem like it was doing anything special, so I gave it away.

It feels exhausting but I admittedly gave it as a gag gift.

There is an entire world of these kinds of gadgets.

Do they work? I think the answer by and large is they probably work better than doing nothing at all but none of them are a magical quick fix to losing weight or getting in shape (I think the two weight/shape are very different items).

"do they work" ... at what? Are you trying to improve your physique/muscle tone? Or are you trying to improve your cardiovascular health, or what?

IME, none of these gimmicks are effective at improving muscle tone. Resistance exercise is what does it for me - free weights and even calisthenics like simple push-ups, sit-ups and jogging. When vigorous exercise is paired with attention to healthy dieting, my entire body just looks and feels better - the physique, the skin, face, energy level, etc.

I picked up a recumbent bike the other day and I need something for the upper body while cycling.. I don’t have dumbbells at home so I figured instead of buying a set, I might as well pay little less and get the shake weight.

Buy actual hand weights. You'll have more of a use for them.

Get handweights for sure over the shake weight.

What are your goals?
