Question ROP status renewal period fixed or rolling

Sorry if this topic may already has been discussed but I couldn't find any answer that would solve my confusion about this.

I attained the Gold Status on 10 Aug 2016.
Therefore the renewal periods show as this:

1st period 10 Aug 2016 - 09 Aug 2017
2nd period 10 Aug 2017 - 09 Aug 2018

I want to renew this status this year but until 09 Aug 2017 I will be short by around 5,000 miles, if I don't do any milage-run. But within the period from 20 Aug 2016 - 20 Aug 2017 I would have collected the needed 50,000 miles.

Is the renewal period fixed like stated above or rolling like it is to archive the gold status the first time? So do I have to accumulate the required 50k miles exactly on the fixed periods or can I earn the 50k anytime during a 12 months period within the original status validity?

the qualification periods are fixed individually (not calendar year as many other Airlines).
you either do in one of the two 12 months periods 50k or in 24 months 80k
however 30k in the last 6 month of the first period and 20k in the first 6 month of the second period and otherwise nothing will not let you qualify; you would Need to get 30k in the other 12 months

Worked example:

I joined ROP in March 2017.
Not flights credited to date.

My first Thai or Star Alliance flight is, say 15 June 2017.
To attain Gold, does that mean I have to
a) accumulate 50,000 miles (factoring in J's 1.25 multiplier or F's 1.5 multipler) by 14 June 2018
or
b) accumulate 80,000 miles (factoring in J's 1.25 multiplier or F's 1.5 multipler) by 14 June 2019

I am in a very similar situation (made Gold 31 Dec 16).

As BinSabai wrote. You will need to earn 50k miles in the 1st period or 50k miles in the 2nd period, or 80k miles over periods 1 and 2 combined. Once qualified through any of these 3 methods, this will renew you for the period 10 Aug 2018 - 09 Aug 2020.

Thanks everyone for clarifying.
So then a milage-run is needed if I want to re-qualify in the first period.

Any recommendations for a trip ex BKK in early June to earn 5,100 miles quickly and not spending too much?

that's about return to Japan in Y or economy classes that earn 100% or to Europe with the cheap G economy fare, that earns 50%

Fares ex-BKK are not likely to be such good value for this purpose.

Have a look at fares ex-KUL. Take a LCC to KUL down, then look for something like KUL-BKK-NRT/ICN. KUL-BKK-ICN return in Q costs THB 16,000 and earns around 6,000 miles

Last year I did 4x BKK-CNX-BKK to make Gold. This was the cheapest way by far, but used up 2 mornings of holiday... At THB 2500 per return in cheapest economy class (W) earned 1000 miles each, it was the cheapest way I could find.

Look for a J promo somewhere, although these might not be good value.

Don't discount using other *A carriers ex-BKK as well.

The GC Map here shows some ideas:
