I see on select routes TG stopped using carts in business class
Is the same valid for first class routes?

CDG - BKK // no cart
BKK - MUC // caviar, cheese/fruits and breakfast cereals served from cart

Always liked the cart going through cabin

BKK-MUC-BKK (B747) also no more cart since early August!

It's regarded as a service improvement and not as a deterioration, same as with LH and many others for almost one year.
But don't ask how it works - most crew don't like it and are unhappy (because they definitely do have (or better: would have) to walk much more than before..)

No carts equals slow service..... first meal service can't start until all the drinks orders have been completed one at a time, meals take a very long time, again because of individual service, pax travelling together end up being served at different times, overworked cabin crew, chaos in the galleys (have you seen the number of post-it notes in the galleys during a meal service?), difficult for crew to keep track of where they are with each pax, me being woken with a hot towel, then the first sign of my breakfast 45 minutes later, food sometimes cooled down by the time it's served. Longer meal service means less crew rest time.

Did I forget anything?

In my view, the aircraft galleys and the crew ratios were designed for a cart service. To try to make them work with an individual service is guaranteed to make life more difficult and give service issues. It works in First because of the better crew to pax ratio. That level of service cannot easily be transferred to Business class without more crew and galley space.

The crew try their best, but what they are being asked to do is impossible with the current set-up.

I keep reporting this and each time they appreciate my comments and pass them to the Management and unit concerned.

actually with the no cart service and the Samrap Thai and Western food choice, the range of available meals improved a lot. Service is a bit more slow and you might get an earlier wake up for breakfast. But the overall experience has improved if you do not have a crew, who screw it up or has a lack of response on the passengers wishes. It helps to communicate your wishes about food and various drinks upfront clearly to the FA!
I am sure that once the crews get more familiar and routine, service will get a bit faster as well

BKK FRA and CDG BKK in J in the last month, excellent crews both directions. Love the new product. Attentive and responsive crew, no waiting or early wake up. CDG BKK they managed to serve my breakfast after I woke up 45mins before landing. Such a contrast with the pretty awful BKK AKL service.

Flew MEL>BKK in J last week. Service (ground and air) was excellent. Food just OK, for dinner first course was good, second not so good. Breakfast was passable, but I don't generally eat too much on a flight so it didn't bother me. Croissants were delicious as was the fruit.
Bubbles was Veuve, wines were pretty good.

I haven't tried the new concept with TG yet, but I had such an experience flying LH to Beijing last November when this service concept was brand new on that route. On my last trip to BJS in April it was all perfect (while the food on the way back from SHA was just bad..)
Very curious how TG will deal with it - but it shouldn't really be a big problem in the small C-compartments on their B747s.
But I permit them (and myself) some more time to experiment with it and hope they will have got a certain routine and good experience when it comes to me to try it next in October/November

I agree absolutely but yes, you did miss something.

Another problem is that PAX can order breakfast or other meals at any time.
When I fly BKK - LHR, in order to avoid jet lag, I do not go to sleep until circa 3am Thai time so I am already adjusting half the time difference, I normally have no problem sleeping 7 hours. Now though this does not work: on my last flight a family near me decided to have breakfast at between 7 & 8am Thai time, so they are chattering away with the clanking of cutlery on plates, lights on and cabin crew walking up and down constantly, waking me up after a mere 4 hours sleep and preventing any further sleep.

I think I would be better off in economy which is what I will do if there is a repeat of this. Breakfast should not be available until 2 hours before landing.

Cabin service can be a hit and run,..... I was on TG407 in Y yesterday and looking around I saw the FA when all over the cabin asking G and P pax their meal choices, except he did not ask me even though I am P.

Did not bother as I was not hungry anyway. After take off they started serving the P & G pax, of course not me. When the meal cart came, I asked, why as P I was not given meal service priority?

This is not the first time, happened a couple of times already in J as well as Y....

there are crews who give P members priority service and other crews ignore this completely. But that I am ignored while other P get priority has never happened to me. Did you credit your mileage to another program? then they can not see your status on TG

The same happened to me too , and I am also TG Plat .
I put it down to the lack of professionalism of some TG crew members .
