How do the 10 "recent threads" appear on the FT homepage

Just wondering how the 10 "recent threads" appear on the FT homepage. They're obviously only a fraction of the overall number. Is there some logic behind the selection, like number of replies or views ? Does thread rating come into it ? Or are they just chosen by a moderator ?
