Suggestion: displaying links more prominently

Depending on the type of screen that you're using, the appearance of links can sometimes be very difficult to see.

By default, the links are displayed in a dark blue that is visually similar to the black text that appears everywhere else, so a link to flyertalk can get lost in a paragraph. I know from experience that some users will see the text difference clearly, others won't.

On the other hand, a link to flyertalk that is in a contrasting color, or a link to flyertalk that is underlined would be a lot more obvious. While more experienced users can do this manually, it would be better still if one or the other were the default.

They should be underlined now... let us know if it causes any layout problems or weird side-effects.

I thought I saw many more underlines on FlyerTalk than usual!

I personally prefer the old way (without all of the underlines all over FlyerTalk), but that is only my own personal opinion...

I have to agree. This hasn't been much of an issue before, so I was amazed to see it implemented after requests from just a few users.... There are so many links pretty much everything is now underlined...

I agree. With all the underlining, the forums look very cluttered.

I didnt realize it would cause so many underlines. I was just thinking of the ones within a post. It does look kinda messy. Is there an easy way to just underline links within posts? Like add some bolding to the "insert hyperlink" button's code?

The weird side effect is that FlyerTalk looks like a 1997 era site

I think the underlines are ugly.

At one point even the names of FlyerTalk members were underlined within each milepost, but they are not anymore.

It seems as though the process of deconstructing the underlines has begun...

Handles in the forum view (last post and OP) are still underlined.

Slightly more constructively: it seems that the real issue is URLs embedded into paragraph text. I don't think the obviously navigational sections of the site need the underlines. It should be possible to design a style sheet that only applies an underline (if that is thought of ultimately as a good idea) to links within posts, rather willy-nilly in headache-inducing visual noise fashion.

Also - consistency is good. From a usability perspective, I can't see why half the links are underlined and half are not (e.g. forum name in the path-to-forum in the second main horizontal block). In fact, some of the non-underlined links are not colour differentiated from body text (e.g. thread starter name.

Yeah, it makes the front pages look too busy. I vote for going back to the old way!
