My Experiance and Bath Menu

Spent one night here at the Westin Chaoyang where I had a quick morning meeting at the hotel and its location to the city and the airport was excellent. Arrived at 9:30 pm and the check-in and lobby was very busy. As a new Platinum I was looking forward to a fantastic room and was let down upon check in. The hotel was running full and somehow my reservation did not reflect my status. Was given a basic room on a SPG floor as nothing else was available. The duty manager walked me to the elevator and apologized saying that he would put a note on my file to ensure that my next stay would have priority for an upgrade.

The room itself was very comfortable and I found it very modern and luxurious. Had a late dinner and drinks at Mix which was very good, I did however notice that there were a few 'professionals' working the room. Breakfast in the lounge was excellent and has a great view of Ring Road 3 towards the south. Wish I had more time to enjoy the pool and spa, maybe next time.

Bathologists - I did not have a chance to try the bathologist due to my late arrival. It is available from 5 – 10 pm and they request 2 hours notice prior to drawing the bath. Choices available are (from the bath menu):

India – with the mind body and spirit in full focus this combination of oils releases stress and tenstion to bring the body back to its natural balance. Detoxifying aromas of bergamot, nutmeg, cedar wood and black pepper.

Orient – An Ancient form of chinese blend. Rebalances energy flow through this synergistic melange. Rebalancing aromas of yiang ylang, mimosa, jasmine and vanilla.

Mediterranean – Energetic spirits and the warmth of Mediterranean cultures enhance and uplift your sense of well being. Stimulated aromas of basil, orange, lemon, oregano and bergamot.

Arabia – The passion and poetry of the desert combine vitality and peace of mind. Invigorating aromas of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, geranium, cumin and amyris.

Each includes: hydration face mask, jade eye mask and petal passion fruit

Cost: 350 rmb + 15% service Charge

Welcome to modern Beijing!
If you are flashing money the staff will make sure they spot you! Nothing like when the Olympics were on I am told.

I enjoyed my stay here earlier this year and the suites are particularly nice.

I had another stay here in mid-December, and I just have to say the hotel continues to get it right... excellent service from all the staff, who do a great job of being helpful without being too keen (sometimes a problem in China, although less-so these days).

Great value at the new dim sum restaurant (the name escapes me) - the food was good, although the place might lack just a bit of character.

The health club and black-tiled pool are definitely worth checking out... probably one of the nicest fitness facilities Westin's offer anywhere. I did some laps around 1630 or so, just as the light was fading but they had not yet turned on all the indoor lights - was just great.

...and the hooks were there .

Another great stay - really like this place.

Wishing you all a happy Chinese New Year!

Staying currently at the Beijing Chaoyang Westin and enjoying the fireworks and the spring festivals in town. And we also enjoy the charming hospitality at this great hotel. One of the best Westin's we have been to: Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff, nice lounge, excellent rooms and great view.

Originally planned to be here for only 1 night, but after five nights, we are still enjoying the hospitality of this hotel. Enough said!

Gong Xi Fa Cai to all of you!

A quick note on my experiences here at the lovely Westin Beijing Chaoyang.

I booked the car service with the hotel from PEK and was surprised to find a guy with a VIP sign and my name on it at the end of the jetway coming off of my flight from Seoul. After an escorted walk through the terminal, we took a locked elevator to a VIP area of the airport and the hotel Audi A6 was waiting. Very posh pickup.

When we arrived to the hotel, the door opened and I was greeted by name and immediately brought to my room. As a gold member, they upgraded my standard room to a Renewal Suite...which is simply fantastic. Tall ceilings, corner room, floor to ceiling windows with electric shades, gigantic bathroom with travertine floors/walls and a big jacuzzi tub...really one of my all time favorite rooms anywhere in the world.

Service is superb...room service is superb...the Westin workout facility is good..the spa and pool are superb...really a special property. Highly, highly recommended.

How much is the car service from PEK if booked through the hotel?

The St Regis was 600 rmb and I believe when I looked the Westin was the same( I checked there website and that is correct) . I took the car service to the hotel and a taxi to the airport and it was around 100rmb. That is about a $74 spread. In my case, my flight arrived at midnight and never having been to PEK I did not want to mess with a taxi but next time if my flight arrives at a normal time the taxi is fine.

RMB 600 sounds about right...I don't recall it exactly. It certainly wasn't cheap by any standard...but it was very nice service.

Clearly, I wasn't searching hard enough. The transportation options are posted here.

Upcoming Stay at Westin Chaoyang

Thank you all for your insight! I have stayed at the Sheraton Great Wall and West Financial in years past. I will be going to Beijing again Aug 20-27 and will stay for the first time at the Westin Chaoyang. I am hoping for a great stay based on the reviews. I am a bit nervous as a Platinum member the Westin Financial has always (3x) upgraded me to a suite..will see what happens.
I will post a a full review upon my return.

Any restaurant tips near the hotel?

Safe n fun travels.

If your meetings are near Financial Street, this hotel is very inconvenient. It is located in the far northeast of the city, close to the airport and hi tech companies. It is 30-60 minutes to Financial Street. So, a lot depends on where you need to go and your tolerance for commuting/traffic.

You have a good shot at getting upgraded to a "renewal" room (they probably call it a renewal suite"). This is a very cool corner room (4 per floor), which is large (60 sq meters), and high tech. The room includes either a massage chair or a foot massage machine (both great). I stayed there 3x in last two weeks. The first time I was automatically upgraded to a Renewal room. The next two times I was tild the hotel was full and given a standard room on the Club floor (technically an upgrade, but no different than a standard room on a non club floor). after arguing that that the website was displaying renewal rooms for salke, I was upgraded to a renewal room. This took about 30 minutes and three levels of appeal. The thrid time, I just had to ask the front desk manager to check again, and after 5 mins or so, a renewal room majically appeared.

There is a big difference between the renewal rooms and the regular rooms. I wouldn't stay here for the regular rooms.

I highly recommend the Grill in the hotel. It's like an American/Australian Steak House. Very good. They are also running free glass of wine and other promos, so check if you go there.

I was upgraded to a nice suite on the Club Floor (after asking again) at the Westin Financial Street. I like the room and thought the people were very attentive (from Bellmen to Club Lounge), but the hotel is tired. I think the Ritz is the place to stay in the Financial District.

My favorite restaurant in the City is Made in China in the Grand Hyatt. Best Beijing Duck (really is "better") and also try the hugely ju$bo prawns.

Thank you nologic!
My business this trip is near the 3rd ring and the Westin Chaoyang is very close to where I will be working. Good to know a good steak source just in case. I have had friends also tell me about the Duck at the Grand Hyatt will have to sample it. I appreciate the insight!

All the best!

No question, if you do business in this area, this hotel is a home run. I tend to stay here my first night into the city and my last night out, because of the proximity to the airport. It is also relatively close to the Park Hyatt, which features Xui, a great club.

The BIG negative of this hotel is that it is very far from Financial Street, but the BIG positive is that it is close to the airport...(and, it's primarily a negative if you do business in the Financial district). Grill is terrific, but I already said that. I think the breakfast doesn't serve fresh OJ, which I find is a bummer, but I could be wrong.

Unless I'm reading things incorrectly, the SPG.com search engine appears to suggest that there's a big difference between a Renewal Room (60 sqm) and a Renewal Suite (100 sqm).

Also, it seemed like Plats upthread were initially getting upgraded to Renewal Suites when the hotel first opened...hopefully that hasn't changed. Unless a "select standard suite" is something else here.
