Post New Luxury Collection in Salta, Argentina

The local news is reporting that a new boutique hotel, managed by Starwood will open in the northern Argentine province of Salta. It will be part of the Luxury Collection properties. I will see if I can find a link to a press release or some more information in English and post it here.

I am very much interested in this since I was planning to visit Salta sometime in 2006, ever since I friend told me about the fantastic trip on " Tren a las Nubes"

Keep us updated.

The new property will be names "Patios de Cafayate", and is an investment of the GBH Group. Im still searching for more news. Maybe someone from Starwood can shed more light?

My searches on the web come up dry... it seems that the GBH Group is an investor group out of Montevideo Uruguay, and deal in investments in the recreation and tourism industries. They do business, among others, with Casinos Austria.

Not much help, I know, but this is all I have for now. All I do find are various Argentine press releases (in Spanish) that pretty much only inform of the upcoming opening.

Thanks.

Here's what I wrote back in 2006:

The Salta Sheraton was very nice. Maybe a 15-minute walk or very cheap ($1 or $2 at most) taxi ride from the city center. It's slightly up a hill with a nice view of the city and beyond, from both the rooms and the very pleasant and (at least when we were there) uncrowded pool area. Nice rooms and decent gym. Friendly and helpful staff, though their English was not great, but that was no big deal. Salta itself is a great city--too big to be called quiet or quaint (though the Sheraton itself is in a quiet spot), but it's charming and engaging and different from many other Argentine cities in that many of the people are indigenous, so that affects the food and other characteristics of the place. Big plaza in the middle of town with outdoor cafes. Also pretty hilltop spot that is either a strenuous (and we like to hike) 30-minute climb up some stairs from right near the Sheraton or a fun ride up and down a tram.

If you search "Salta" in thread titles in this forum, you'll find a few other threads (including the one I posted in) that have reviews of the property. All or most of them are positive. It's seven years since I've been there, but unless things have radically changed I'd recommend it. Not a super-glamorous property, but quite nice and located in an interesting city that is in turn situated in a pretty part of the country.

Here is my review (also posted on the SPG website).

Enjoyed my stay at this Sheraton although there is definitely room for improvement.

The hotel is about a 20-25 minute walk from the main square and is on a hill. Provides nice views when in room, but remember you will have to walk back up it when returning. Taxis are cheap however if this is an issue.

The positives:
1- The front desk staff and bellman are super friendly and nice. They offered me a late checkout until 5pm even though I neglected to request a Your24 prior. Very nice gesture.
2- I was upgraded to a 1 BR corner suite as a Platinum Guest.
3- Nice pool, jacuzzi and gym
4- Free parking
5- Fast Internet (10 Mbps).

The negatives (or areas for improvement):
1- There is a club lounge but no alcohol. Just tea, coffee, water, OJ, finger foods and desserts (from 5-7pm). Why not add a bottle of vino for Platinum guests to enjoy?
2- There was no in-room amenity provided to me. Many hotels offer something like a bottle of wine especially when they don't offer this in their club lounge.
3- Poor choice of pillows - only very firm types, nothing feather or flat.
4- The breakfast which is included for Platinums offers very poor choices. No made to order omelets, no hard boiled eggs, just very runny eggs. And some pretty sad fruit. Really can do a better job here.
5- I also stopped by the restaurant for lunch one day and although the sign stated it should be open, it was closed. Inconvenient on a rainy day.
6- They offer Green Choice but don't provide cards under the door to turn in at checkout. They said just hang the card and we'll make note of it to apply your points. However, I was not provided with the correct # of points. If you're unable to track properly, implement an alternate system.

Overall I enjoyed my stay and I'd come back if in the area. Although hopefully they'd improve on some of the issues I describe.

This is my 2nd stay at the Sheraton Salta. The first time was 2016 or 2017. Then, I was upgraded to their corner 1 bedroom suite.

This time around (June 2022), no upgrade whatsoever. I currently have 60 nights YTD, this is my 4th stay this year (7 nights total) not getting an actual real suite. The club lounge is still closed. But doesn't really matter anyways because most tours from Salta tend to be 12 hours minimum long, so by the time youre back at the hotel, the lounge is closed anyways.

In lieu of this, they do have happy hour from 5PM - 7PM daily in the hotel lobby. Buffet mini sandwiches and desserts, as well as wine, etc. Looks unhygienic with all of the uncovered food literally smacked in the middle of the lobby. You also only get 2 complimentary water daily. Any more than that is 5USD a piece.

They are also having ongoing renovations in the rooms any time of the day/night. One time, workers were banging wood right beside my room at past midnight (so rude). But a quick phone call to reception stopped that.

I didn't bother taking photos of the property. Not worth my effort.

But all the staffs here are great. Very friendly. The requests are accomplished very fast. Actually the vast majority of people in Salta are very friendly. I think the most positive aspect of this hotel is their staffs.
