I did wind up staying here. While I am Platinum I did not really expect any real recognition as I was on Delta Vacation Package booking. They did recognize my status and upgrade me from their basic room into a larger king bed room that was very nice. I also got free breakfast and free internet. Breakfast was very nice and I really enjoyed eating under that dome, but I don't think I would pay the 35 Euros they want for breakfast.

Room was on the first floor which initially had me nervous but turned out to be great, it was easy to just quickly walk up to the room and they did have key card access to the hallways on the first floor. Room was in excellent shape and the staff was great. I had wanted to stay here and am glad I did. It's an elegant hotel, but not stuffy and I really enjoyed. GREAT location for visiting the museums of Madrid and pretty nice for the rest of the city.

I also stayed on the first floor as a plat. I didn't like it because of the no-view courtyard where everyone could stare straight into your room. Sure, the stairs were convenient, but otherwise, meh. I stayed on an SPG award where I paid 13.5k instead of 12k.

Location and breakfast were great, though.

Does anyone happen to have the e-mail address for the Westin Experience Specialist/Concierge at this hotel? Was hoping to reach out to them about an upcoming stay.

Nevermind re: Concierge email - just checked SPG´s own website, and they´re showing the same email. Plus, the above poster did have a 24-hour response from them mid-2017.

Still curious re GM´s email, or even DOSM?

I did two quick stays here. First stay was pre-upgraded to a junior suite, but was told that the room wouldn’t be ready until 5pm. I was offered a renovated premium view of the fountain as an alternative, which I found to be more than adequate. On the second stay, I was upgraded to an unrenovated junior suite. It was pretty spacious and clean, but I can see how it’s becoming dated. To be honest, I would have preferred a normal renovated room to the unrenovated junior suite. The Westin has renovated three floors so far, so I’d try to get on one of those floors.

The gym is open 24/7 and has a large array of equipment to choose from. WiFi was a decent speed at 10Mbps. The hotel breakfast is excellent and in a great setting. However, if you’re looking for a cup of coffee or tea when it’s busy, you’ll literally need to flag down a server. This is a solid hotel that continues to impress since my first visit almost 8 years ago!

just stayed here. I'm not sure if it's the westin brand specifically (this has has been par for I've gotten at each westin) or just average service and I'm spoiled by Le Meridien / sheraton hotels and their service.

on the plus side, hotel is central and within walking distance to a lot of tourist locations. Room is nice, breakfast was.. well oddly asian flavored, super busy though, but this is a big hotel

on the negative side, as a plat member, got a basic size room (even though suites available each night), 2nd floor, facing... the dome in the middle of the building. clerk only mentioned plat level once when asking me breakfast vs. points. Wasn't offered a choice on rooms (high floor, view, size, etc.), no welcome note, no extra check in gift, in all fairness, felt like I was just a basic preferred guest. Actually, I got a welcome note when I was a basic preferred guest in Paris so... I felt like I was treated worse?

Any recent trip reports? Does anyone know when the room renovations will be complete? I'm looking to book for a spring 2019 trip, probably using points, although cash is an option. It would be our first time visiting Spain. The reviews for this property are solid, but would welcome any alternative suggestions from the community. I'm a value conscious traveller, so if you have any tips to share they would be greatly welcome!

I am curious too. Would love to hear from someone who has stayed here recently. We have booked here in March 2019, but after reading through this thread I’m having second thoughts and considering switching to the W.

Edit- just checked and W isn’t scheduled to open until June- so it looks as if Palace is it. Does anyone know if they have finished the renovations?

Had a 3 night stay early June 2018. Similar to last time I stayed here a few years ago. Great location across from the Prado and a slightly uphill walk up to Gran Via and other places tourists goes. We got a renovated room on the 6th floor (and I think 5th floor is also renovated). In my recollection, nothing much was changed except maybe the windows, the carpets, some paint touchup, but the furniture is still very "grand traditional." No upgrades to suites and none were available since it was the start of the busy tourist season and none were showing up online. It is a very busy hotel. Service was good for the most part with some staff better than others. Nice big air-conditioned gym on the 7th floor and outdoor sitting area is a plus. The Rotunda restaurant has the 35 Euro pp breakfast included as part of the platinum amenities in a beautiful setting. Easy walk to Atocha station for day trains to Toledo and other places in Spain. Not exactly close to a metro station but the hop-on-hop-off starts just outside the hotel.

For touristy stuff and shopping district with lots of restaurants, I would rather stay at the Circulo Gran Via, an Autograph Collection. The rooms there are all "new" but still have some "traditional" trims on it. All else the same but a smaller hotel.

Was there two months ago - SNAs cleared to what was called a Junior Suite but was really a standard two room suite w/1.5 bathrooms. Was staying on C+P.

Gym was good as noted. Same for breakfast.

Also dined on property one night at the sushi restaurant, was pretty good. Hit the spot after a long week of tapas, pintxos, and paella!

If not for all the great benefits observed I'd be ready to give the Principal a chance...

Yes- the benefits are important to me. I just found a Points Guy Review and he has a video of the Junior Suite- it looks pretty nice. We will probably keep the Palace. When I first saw "Sushi" I thought WTH? but I suppose I get it. Although for me, the opposite happens. If I'm in a place with great food I find myself still craving the local cuisine when I get home.
