Which property?

If you're Gold or Plat & the exec lounge is closed on the weekend, you get the choice of free brekkie in the restaurant or 750 points. There are only 12 properties in the US (not all JWs) where you get a flat 1,000 points in lieu of brekkie.

If you did not receive brekkie & it wasn't 1 of the 12 properties you were entitled to $100 compensation.

"Guaranteed Lounge Access/Breakfast

Enjoy refreshments and complimentary breakfast for you and one guest in the lounge. In the U.S. and Canada, at hotels without a lounge or if the lounge is closed, you’ll have a choice of continental breakfast in the restaurant or 750 points. In Europe, hotels without a lounge offer a choice of breakfast for two in the restaurant or 750 points. See terms and conditions for full details and any exclusions.

At JW Marriott®, Autograph Collection®, Renaissance Hotels®, Marriott Hotels® and Delta Hotels® (Resorts, Courtyard Hotels, EDITION® Hotels and AC Hotels are excluded).

True. However suites upgrades are part of the T&Cs for Plats at RC. However, since yeunganson had already booked a suite, not sure if there was a better one to upgrade him/her to.

svo242 posted this in the Marriott forum in the RC upgrade thread from RC T&Cs

"Complimentary Room Upgrade: Upgrades are based on room availability at check-in and limited to a member's personal guestroom. Upgrades may include rooms with desirable views, rooms on high floors, corner rooms, rooms with special amenities and rooms on Executive Floors. Suites are included for Platinum members only. Rooms with direct Club Lounge access are excluded. All upgrades are granted on a space-available basis, as determined at the time of check-in. Upgrades are subject to availability and identified by each hotel."

JW Marriott Washington DC. I was there on July 4th weekend. They did not offer breakfast at the restaurant at all. I think they may have the 1000 points but I am not sure as 1000 points like $5 for me. It's not even enough to get a large coffee at the Starbucks there. We did get a really nice room upgrade though so I am NOT (edited to added the missing word) upset about the stay even without breakfast.

JW Marriott Washington DC is one of the 12 properties in the US that on weekends gives a flat 1,000/night in lieu of breakfast so you should have received 3,000 extra points when your folio posted.

I had to re-read your last sentence a couple of times, but I think you meant you got a really nice upgrade so you are not upset about the stay even w/o breakfast, vs. you got a nice upgrade but are upset about the stay because of no breakfast?

Cheers.

Yes. Nice room upgrade so not upset about the stay at all even without breakfast. It was a very nice hotel at great location. I was only plat for less than a year with Marriott but so far I got nice room upgrade on all the Marriott stays. I value real room upgrade over free breakfast.

I went into the Rtiz Toronto with an open mind but not expecting anything on top of what I paid for.

That being said. I have stayed in SPG properties for enough years that recognize some actions that cost the hotel little but made a very memorable experience.

Let me list some greatest hits in SPG property: A daily fruit plate with fresh fruits (Thailand), A big bowl of mixed nuts and cookies (Vancouver), a birthday cake (Sheraton Hong Kong), A plate of fresh Chinese traditional pastries ( W Hong Kong), discount in hotel restaurants (popular in North America), epic buffet breakfasts (Asia), a soft mention that my room was upgraded even if it was just a higher floor or a nicer view (most properties), two free drinks on the house (New York) - I ended up spending more than the free drinks.... list goes on.....

Had the Ritz did anything from above, my experience would have been enhanced. Give me a round free drinks is my chance to try their bar... A discount on their restaurant encourages me to try it out. It's less of a complaint than a sense of lost opportunity that would have convinced me that Ritz/St Regis/Westin in a more interchangeable setting. As it stands now, I would still prefer a SPG property over a Marriott property.

Where can I find a list of those twelve properties? Also does Marriot have any properties that could be described being like the Haciendas in Mexico by the Luxury Collection?

Renaissance Naples (Italy)

Booked a one night stay w/points - was upgraded from a Deluxe to a Jr. Suite (which was really a full suite size-wise).

Comp. continental breakfast at the roof restaurant...could have upgraded to hot for $3 but wasn't that hungry.

Hotel quality itself was another story, but Plat treatment quite good.

Thanks for clarifications on lounge and breakfast.

1 night stay at Renaissance Indianapolis North on Spring Mega Bonus free night certificate for Sept. 23, day of merger.

I linked my accounts when I saw the email from SPG while traveling on 9/23. Checked into hotel around 9 PM, hotel cannot see my updated Plat status so I showed my Plat card on Marriott App. No additional benefits beyond MR Gold.

No upgrades, booked room with 2 double bed, received room with 2 double beds on ground floor.

Lounge was closed for weekend, so I chose breakfast in restaurant.

I wasn't expecting suite upgrade based on what I have read re:MR Plat benefits.

I'll see what the experience is like at Washington DC Marriott Metro Center next week.

These are the properties that offer 1,000 points/night on the weekend in lieu of breakfast. Note 2 of them offer brekkie anyway, even though they're on the exempt list.

* JW Marriott Washington, DC
* The Lexington New York City, Autograph Collection

* JW Marriott New Orleans (they also offer breakfast on the weekend even though they're on the exemption list)

* New York Marriott Marquis
* Algonquin, Autograph Collection, New York City
* Renaissance New York Hotel 57
* Renaissance New York Times Square

Ritz Carlton-St. Thomas

I linked my SPG account to my Marriott account today and transferred 70,000 SPG to Marriott=210,000.I then booked thru the Marriott Platinum line 3 nights at the Ritz Carlton on St. Thomas in January to celebrate our anniversary. Not a bad conversion 23,300 points/night for a $895/ night room.Plus there is a $75/n Resort Fee( includes wi fi). The Marriott Platinum rep told me that I would get breakfast since the resort has a lounge/club. That did not sound correct so I contacted the hotel and found out that if I wanted to use their "Club", it would be an extra $350/night.
I wish there was a St. Regis on St. Thomas or any Starwood property.

Just checked account and got 2500 points for the stay. I think 500 is Plat gift and 2000 for the weekend missing breakfast. I guess nothing for 7/4 Monday holiday.

After linking I stayed at the Delta Waterloo. Nice property, great service. Was told I was upgraded, but I honestly could not tell the difference. Our room view was a sub-roof with bank of massive air conditioning units on it. We just closed the curtains.

We also received two breakfast coupons for the three of us, which I could have given up for points (I think 1000). I also received a Plat amenity, a choice between 750 points and a $10 coupon good for food. I figured that was a pretty miniscule amount of points, so I took the coupon and used it for my second child at breakfast.

Sort of underwhelmed by my first Marriott Plat experience.

Cheers,

I linked accounts which worked perfectly and then transferred enough points for 10 nights at the boscolo exedra roma which moved instantly. I was really impressed with how slick everything was especially on day one. I then linked my United account to my Marriott account and picked up United Premier Silver which was also simple.

Here is where I had problems: When you try and book two award rooms on SPG you have to do each one separately. On Marriott it allows you to book two award rooms at a time so I did this which at the time I thought was easier.
When I went back to look at my account activity it didn't look right in that even though the overall point balance was correct the activity was only showing points out for one of the two rooms. Apparently award rooms require the issuance of award certificates which is supposed happen automatically. In my case the certificates only issued for one room. I called and after one transfer to a specialist she said she fixed it after about 20 minutes. It still looked odd on my account so in an abundance of caution I cancelled everything and started over booking separate rooms.

The other thing that is different was that I was allowed to book the basic room and then pay extra per night to upgrade to a bigger room which I did not do.
