Listen in on the earnings conference call the morning of the 29th of April. If there is any update beyond what they talked about last quarter, it will be mentioned then.

Why would they not? It is just another brand. The point of the hotel joining is precisely to capture new customers that are looking for SPG points. The things the hotel doesn't have to follow are having a particular brand name, a specific type of shampoo, etc.

Perhaps I'm behind the curve but I don't see how this new brand is or will be strongly differentiated from the Luxury Collection properties? The brief description makes it seem like there could be plenty of overlap.

Curious to see who and when Charleston hotels join. Was planning a fall trip but wanted a nice, more central experience than Aloft and was hoping to stay on points. Could be a big win, personally

Hi EWRFlyerAL

Tribute Portfolio hotels are fully participating in the Starwood Preferred Guest program and Elite members will be eligible for tier benefits. The Royal Palm South Beach Miami is a resort property, so the 4pm late check-out is not guaranteed.

Can someone explain to me the distinction between the Luxury Collection and the Tribute Collection? They seem quite similar.

Also, I have to say I'm very disappointed with the promo. Why run a promo for a new brand when you only have 1 hotel? *wood should wait until there are numerous hotels. As it is this is not a promo for Tribute Hotels, this is a promo for the Miami Beach Royal Palm.

Hi dcstudent,

Tribute Portfolio will focus on independent 4 star upper upscale hotels and will complement the 5 star Luxury Collection brand. Right now Royal Palm South Beach Miami is the only hotel, but others may join before the promotion ends.

I suspect that SPG and LC properties both want a brand for other independent boutique hotels that is distinct from LC. LC are supposed to be 5 star type properties for the most part (at least in their eyes and those of SPG) so creating a separate brand for design and upscale properties that are not quite appropriate for LC seems like a good and smart move for everyone.

A program-level promotion with one participating property? I guess this provides an "at least it's not as bad as..." response to those complain about participation in future promotions.

I'm opening nominations for the 13th brand - uniting, drab, 1 star, lower scale independent hotels (assuming 11 and 12 are for 3 and 2 star, respectively).

Hi CLEguy,

We are still determining the business model for Design Hotels, but we know and understand how important the benefits of our award-winning Starwood Preferred Guest program are to our members.

That reminds me...I better check the list of non-participating hotels.

Sorry, but you missed the "yee hah" geography by a long shot.

With the exception of Miami Beach, the other initial locations are where SPG and the description of the Tribute fit well.

Interesting article in today's Wall Street Journal. With respect to Luxury Collection it says "Tribute is focusing on what Starwood says will be high-end hotels that are a notch down in price."
