Just got this message in my inbox:

"We are proud to announce that the Aloft South Beach (Miami, Florida) is now part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. The hotel is accepting reservations as of today, January 14, 2015, for future dates on or after May 21, 2015. The official opening date is April 16, 2015. Please note that since this is a new activation, we will not expect availability on the web until later today.

SPG Category 5."

Whoa!! Looks like only the rack rates have been loaded so far! I certainly hope that is the case: at U$430 - 480 any day in June tHrough September, it matches the W almost to the nearest dollar.

This will have to be a pretty fantastic Aloft to warrant these prices, considering there's no direct beach access and, well... it's an Aloft!

I thought the same. Was hoping for introductory rates, but only found $450+.

Though, this property does have a lot more room types than a typical Aloft. I think there were 5+ish.

I was searching for something else, looks like The Continental will be an onsite restaurant. The Continental is a Starr Restaurant. They have a portfolio of great restaurants. They also own Steak 954 at the W Fort Lauderdale.

I also noticed this
Recreational Fee Policy
The hotel’s mandatory recreational fee of 20 USD per room per day includes:
  • Two complimentary luxury lounge chairs [is there more than one type of chair]
  • Full-length fitted towels [Insted of "unfitted'?]
  • Floating devices [ ]
  • Beach reading material [Does this mean free daily local paper? Or is this something property specific that you request in advance? Most people bring their own reading material]
  • Cold signature water [Signature? ]
  • Access to Plunge Deck games and entertainment
  • Usage of our signature bicycles

Is this the equivalent of a "resort fee"? This property is not a resort.

Also how will this affect Platinum guests?

Yup-- and just another example of how resort fees are slowing spreading to properties that in the past would never have them (due to them NOT being resorts). Considering that this property is not actually on the beach, I can only assume that the "luxury lounge chairs" with "fitted towels" they are referring to are the chairs that would normally be provided at the hotel pool for free?

All I know, is this "fee" doesn't make this property more attractive than the W which has direct beach access.

I can certainly confirm that The Continental will be at the South Beach Aloft ( my son is the Executive Chef). And yes, the Starr Restaurant group is justifiably well-known for it's great restaurants. Very excited to be visiting in June.

Coming soon to an SPG Property near you are "convenience fees" of $10/day. This will allow you to use the elevator instead of the stairs.

Can't believe an Aloft Hotel is charging these extra fees. That said, it is quite a good list of extras considering what you typically get with a higher resort fee at many locations and I would actually see value in these items assuming they mean a portable beach chair and full size beach towels.
Now where do I park the bike when I pull up to the Delano Hotel bar...hope it comes with a lock..or those will probably be available for rent for $10/day extra..haha

Ummm, what? I have rooms booked for June and have not been contacted by anyone about any cancellation??? In fact, my reservation is still showing as a valid booking??

If they have cancelled all June bookings they better have another option ready!!! Airline tickets have been purchased and we are less then 2 weeks out!!

************just checked online and it appears they are still taking reservations after June 10th***********

I would strongly suggest calling the property to be 100% sure and having a backup hotel if the property is not ready to open.
